Funny with this shift to MLB guys wearing Jordans is the fact they are basketball shoes that dont provide great traction on grass/dirt.  Interesting times indeed.

There is a company that that will put a turf bottom on shoes to provide traction. Looks basically like a turf sole super glued over the existing bottom. I’d imagine that’s the route many went. They can Also turn shoes into cleats.

But they play on immaculate diamonds and use 4-man.  They don't make hard cuts like we do.  I mean they don't have to pivot & sprint from A to cover a triple, so I doubt they need a tremendous amount of traction like we would on our poorly-managed fields.

They may move a lot (like every batter and situation), but they're mostly moving 10-20' around the same base for most of the game.

How often do you see a plate umpire after a game in MLB look like he is dust-covered from the knee down?  I don't remember seeing it for a long time... and even less so for the field guys.  But you and I after working on our diamonds come off looking like we got faded pants on from the knee down many times, even in the field due to the dusty conditions. This allows them to pretty much wear any shoes they'd like and they can still keep them clean and looking sharp.

This 100% - it's exactly why I've decided to go with golf shoes, just need more traction.
