For everyone who complains about the Bananas' antics, and how they are (might be) making a mockery of the game...

Take a look at that video clip, and look in the stands...

Packed.

I rest my case.

I'm just wondering about the bat *after* he hit it. Did he discard it onto the grass? Did it have a switch to turn off the fuel? Inquiring minds want to know.

It's not a freakin' lightsaber, Kylo Huts-ren. 🙄

They sprayed something akin to lighter fluid on the bat, set it afire, and into the box he went. I have a sense that it was going to peter out in the next pitch or two if he didn't get a hit on pitch 2.

It would have been newsworthy if he had flung the bat – ala any local Little League game – into the catcher and/or umpire, against the netting, or into the opposing (1st base) dugout. Now that'd be a spectacle!

Baseball purists have to realize that they're attracting the likeminded. For the game to grow, you've got to cater to the person who is just learning the game/doesn't care about advanced metrics, and are just at the game to have fun.

Other than the flaming bat I also notices there are just so many people on the field (non- players).

But the stands are packed. I think the minor leagues of drawing people in with all sorts of different promotions.

These Bananas vs. Party Animal games are akin to the Harlem Globetotters game or WWE. It’s a show or event, not a game.

Don’t know all the details but there is a game clock, this bat trick type deal, the batter going into the splits. Heck the umpire is the same each game, and he’s got social media as the dancing umpire.

When the summer rolls around they have a college summer team in the CL, and that the entertainment continues on, just at a smaller level.

I got no problem with the antics and the fun elements of things like this...I played against Eddie Feigner in a charity game about 30 years ago. (look him up if you haven't heard of him)   My father-in-law played against him 60 years ago.   Struck me out pitching from second base.   It's good fun and no different than anything the Harlem Globetrotters do.

Having said that...I'm really not sure what's at all impressive about getting a hit with a burning bat.

I will tell you that when they came and played at the AAA stadium here, more folks went to that one game than about a week's worth of AAA ball games.

Got a feeling they are hoping for a HR.... not a single
