DerekGDS
Bit of a tease... currently rare although not as highly coveted as the DaviShield 🫠, and comes in just over 2 lbs with maximum pad thickness of about 15mm.

DavisShield was not thick enough. Maybe 12u max. Therefore, ...padding and plate thickness are paramount

Therefore, ...padding and plate thickness are paramount The trend though is thinner and leaner. The new foams don't have to be as thick as they used to be to offer the same, or better, stopping power. Plastic plates really only need be thick enough to withstand the impact and refrain from splitting like a Champion plate might. F3 for example puts 3mm plastic plates in their CP. For those keeping score at home, that's barely over a tenth of an inch. The whole unit is around 1/2", so what Derek is showing is comparable to that. And Kevlar, that bullet-catching miracle within the F3 CP's, is actually a fabric and not substantial or comparable to a plastic plate at all... which, we all know, is why F3 added plastic plates to their CP's. The DavisShield played a part. We learned from it. There are good teachers and there are teachers that hurt you so you won't do that again. I think we know which one this was, but it still taught us something. Feedback, almost any feedback, is useful and can be used to improve if you apply it with thought. If thicker was better, we'd all be going up there with 2" thick pillows strapped to our chest and arms.

I think this is the most polite thing I have ever heard about the DaviShield. The product was significantly flawed, a fact I will openly acknowledge. We've learned our lessons from it and can assure you that we will not replicate the shortcomings of DaviShield. 1

This looks really cool! Kinda looks similar to a Wilson.
The Man in Blue
For what it is worth, my first CP was the Davishield. I wore it up through varsity games. It was, IMO, one of the most comfortable CPs I have had. I didn't expect it to take everything out of an impact, but I felt fine wearing it. Did I know there were more protective units out there? Yes, but I liked the fit and movement compared to others that I had tried. What finally moved me to change was heat.
The Man in Blue
I rarely click on ads that pop up . . . but I had to click on one to get the picture for this CP. 😋

Seriously, the amount of design thought they put into these armor pieces for movies is stupefying. Functionally, nearly worthless, but nonetheless looks impressive. Dammit, I need a vacu-former. One of my favorite Youtubers will do movie, tv show, pop culture armor (or "armour" if you will, seeing as how she is British) reviews. They go from "I'd wear it" at the stop to "Just Stab Me Now" for ones that are both non-functional and/or ridiculous looking. She also has "Not Really Armour" if it isn't... well... actually armor. (She also does fight scene breakdowns and I find those fascinating as a former theater kid.)

At some point or another I need to buy her book! I got wrapped up in her shorts for the story of Caroline, Rosamund, and Leo. Baseballer
Here is my brand new retrofit from @Umpiresrock74. Its Wilson plates with a planform for the Riddell Power Medium padding. This is very light and fits just like the Riddell I had a few years ago. Its complete with Fidlock buckles. I am beyond ecstatic about this CP. I am switching the harness out for an Umplife. If anyone needs a retrofit I highly recommend Michael.
Umpiresrock74
Some Retrofits I have done, 1/2 foam, amazing protection half the thickness of a Wilson pad!

If that CP is truly for a MLB guy, then come up with a vinyl wrap/decal piece, and charge him double. Pic D- Michael… ya can’t keep & hoard them. You have to send them back. 😅
