Nice article on this year's LLWS umpires in the NYT today. Have had the pleasure of meeting and being trained/evaluated by several of those mentioned or shown in it - Joe Smith, Ricci Hall, Tom Rawlings - all great guys who are really good umpires and want to help you become one, too.

For Volunteer Umpires, Little League World Series in the Pinnacle - The New York Times (nytimes.com)

The Little League World Series Is the Pinnacle for the Umpires, Too

The players dream of nationally televised glory. But for the nervous and excited volunteer umpires, the goal is to go unnoticed.

I was going to post the entire article here, but thought better of it.   It's pretty long.

Not badly written.

Does your company provide its product for free? No? The why expect the NYT to do so?

Why assume he was passing judgement on NYT's business model? Maybe he was simply letting OP know that he couldn't read it and therefore couldn't engage in conversation about it.

Because  I see the same complaint made over and over and over again on Newspaper Facebook pages.

Well then copy/pasta the article or cut some out of it and quote it for us that do not care to pay for something like that so that we CAN than engage in the discussion..

Illegal.  Copyright violation. Do you work for free? Does your employer give away its product/service for free? Don't expect others to so.

Copyright Law and Fair Use

Copyright law allows "fair use" of small parts of copyrighted works without the permission of the author. If the reproduction is for the purpose of criticism, news reporting, teaching, or research it is more likely to be fair use than if it is copied for commercial purposes. It is difficult to make this determination in advance, however, since they typically depend on a number of case-specific criteria. An example of fair use would be a book reviewer quoting a few lines from a book in an online book review.

The U.S. Copyright Office maintains a Fair Use Index to help attorneys and non-attorneys get a better understanding of how the courts have ruled on fair use claims.

My company produces products and services worth paying for. Jurassic concepts like newspapers...do not.

All the world's best journalists are either dead...or not working behind pay to read platforms and it's been that way for 20 years now.
