I would like to recommend you take a look at the TV series Have Gun – Will Travel (Season 4 Episode 4). The series is set in the 1870s and the episode is titled Out at the Old Ball Park--it first aired on 10/1/60. In the episode the protagonist Paladin answered a newspaper ad for an honest umpire. And my favorite part is that he wore and used his six-gun as part of his umpire equipment during the game.
