Umpire-Empire locks topics which have not been active in the last year. The thread you are viewing hasn't been active in 1421 days so you will not be able to post. We do recommend you starting a new topic to find out what's new in the world of umpiring.

There is a non-profit organization called Battlefields to Ballfields, and you can find their web site here:  https://www.battlefields2ballfields.org

Their purpose in life is to help veterans and service members to become sporting officials.  They pay your first year's dues AND outfit you with the equipment needed to officiate your sport.  You must be a first year official.  I didn't know about them when I got into umpiring baseball, but that would have saved me a lot of money.  Baseball is expensive to umpire!!!  So if you're new, check them out BEFORE you buy your gear.

If you've been following another thread, you know I just added boxing to the sports I officiate.  It's a lot cheaper to get into boxing -- fees for USA Boxing are $135 (including the background check), and other than that all I needed were some black basketball referee shoes, black slacks, and a white dress shirt.  But since I'm new at that sport, these guys paid for it.

You can also check out the Wounded Warrior Umpire Academy. woundedwarriorua.org

In operation since 2014, WWUA helps Recovering, Injured & ill service members use that sense of camaraderie, and provide them an avenue to be able to transition back into their community through umpiring.

You can also find the link at the bottom of the UA website.
