Biscuit 170
I will note that no where does it say that there will be NO new MiLB jobs (though with the contraction of MiLB, I wouldn't be surprised if this is the case), just that the Advanced course won't be held, so no one will be hired from there. If they have spots that need filled, they could reach out to guys who made it last year that weren't hired, or something of that sort.

I'll tell what I'm hearing from our local AA guys here--by guys I mean the higher ups for the team, not umps--I do not ump at this level. They are concerned that they will not be able to field even 1/2 of the A, AA, AAA teams pre Covid. The reason being is that all of the 'daily players' that had/have no chance of ever going to the bigs were forced to get 'real jobs'. Now, you know these guys make between $6,000-$15,000 a YEAR--not the high picks obviously, but the average joe playing A, AA, AAA that makes up probably 3/4 of the team roster. They suspect that 3/4 of these guys will not come back after getting jobs that pay 5 to 10 times as much. Who would leave a job paying say, $30,000, a year WITH a chance to progress and move up, to return to a job paying $6,000 a year with no chance of moving up? From what I'm hearing minor league baseball, as a whole, unfortunately could be in trouble for the next couple of years.

I should’ve said no new jobs out of pro school next year. They can always call up guys from the CPL or otherwise. Not to mention all the new hires from 2020 that didn’t get to work this year. johnnyg08 1,714
Oh, they'll have no problems finding guys to work....they just won't be fresh out of school.

I know that some teams from the NorthWest League are being folded into the California League (my local team in Hillsboro, Oregon being one). I can only assume a lot of the other teams will do the same as the Appy League and either go independent. Or join one of the local College wood bat leagues.
Beacher80 1
Does anyone know if the Appy and NYPenn leagues will be assigned by MILB or independently now that they are summer/college wood-bat?

Nobody knows outside of those who work for MiLB as of now. I’d assume that they either are kept in the MiLB umpire development system as a development league much like the CPL or they are given to a coordinator to hire guys for those leagues. From this article it sounds like MiLB will operate the leagues in conjunction with USA Baseball and Prep Baseball Report. Doesn't mention who will assign. https://ballparkdigest.com/2020/11/02/details-of-mlb-takeover-of-milb-emerge/

I’d assume someone like John white, who already has a handful of leagues, would be given a crack at putting crews together for these league
