So yeah, this will be my next gear purchase. Been looking for a second CP for busy weekends. I like the upgrades.

Anyone who ends up with one willing to post some pics wearing it? Curious to see how it fits on a taller frame.

Once I get a few game fees this year, I might do the same. Keep one drying and while wearing the other.

I'll be interested to see which model you get from Hibbett's.  @The1yankee can't wait for your report or someone to report on what they actually received.  Pic on website is the new model but it says Schutt not Adams as other pics in previous posts display.  The product description describes T-hooks & The terrible harness system that they trashed.  The price point makes me wonder if this is a retailer who is unloading old stock or the new model.  Keep us updated.  I'm going to pick up one from Hibbett's if the product is indeed the new model design.

If I'm not mistaken, the new model is the Schutt XV HDX, as hibbetts lists as far as model #

The old model is the schutt/Adams XL, period. No HDX, which should indicate model.

HDX model is what's listed on hibbetts

new CP design, has more holes drilled in plates for air flow, and , at least an upgraded harness than past model, and it looks better than a WV harness

Think its razzer, guy on here more or less personalises yur CP with a Cadillac type harness, think its razzed

But I'll have to go full Stock on my New schutt/Adams

See how I like it

IMA order tomorrow

Had a shot to get a nice used system 7 CP, a gold WV IN DECENT SHAPE, N A Nice DOUGLAS USED,

doin JV N UNDER for next 2 yrs, n money seems to be after spring HS ball

doin lil league n tourneys from 17 under I'd say.

I.e. long weekends, doubleheaders, this CP seems perfect for that! Don't look like I'm in the movie 300, with full armor, or at least that's the look it gives to me

So don't need max protection next 2 yrs, but still feel this piece gives, near max protection, and may be more than suitable for Varsity

Not sure about minor league or college n up, probably not

Uhmmm... what? If I remember right, the Spartans of the movie 300 were "armored" like this:
300_770x300.jpg

Yeah, those are some impressive... CPs.

The point is, that the Schutt XV, the Champro Pro Plus, the Champion P2xx, the Force3 UnEqual, and even the +POS Cobra can all be considered "low profile" because they are using advanced, modern foams and are drastically reducing weight and bulk. The System 7 could be considered in this discussion as well, because every segmented plate is pre-contoured and engineered to fit in a conformed manner.

I am probably the standard bearer for the Schutt XV, and its biggest cheerleader. I use no other CP (besides trying a few others and servicing / repairing just about every CP ever made), and you'll find me work plate games for MiLB Spring Training, college -level, Independent league, High School varsity (and upper echelon programs, at that), 18U Academy / Travel ball, and Adult -league (MSBL, NABA, et. al.). I've faced off against 95+ mph. What CP I'm wearing is the least of my concerns.

I say this kindly, but bluntly – you know nothing by which to judge this, or any CP, against and claim it's not suitable for "college n up". Yeah, the old default harness was garbage, but anyone who claims that the XV is incapable of treading into the same environments that the "trusted" WestVests go has been duped by the marketing machine, and subscribed to a pack of lies. It is more than capable at all levels of baseball. The only reasons why people perceive it not to be is because it's half the bulk of WestVests, and it doesn't carry a big gold W.

I own the original as well w/ @MadMax mods.  I followed his instruction & my current one has a System 7 harness.  Like Max I also will not hesitate to wear it at any level & it has proven itself to me in some straight on hard shot scenarios.  I have a Razzer harness just waitin to be used.  I plan to buy a new model & pass this one on to a young buck 18yr old who has joined our local HS association.  Look forward to your pics @The1yankee

Big Max, thanks for the reply.

I say this kindly, but bluntly- for somebody at the level of umpiring you do, I'd think you'd pay more attention to detail to my replies, and u seem to be severely misunderstanding my reply and taking my quotes, Totally, out of context.

I SHOULDVE stated, "THIS IS MY PERSONAL OPINION, NOT FACTUAL INFORMATION!" At the beginning of my response, lol.

ALSO by starting off theses quotes in my message with words like, I  FEEL,  MAYBE or  Im NOT SURE, wouldn't you say that what I'm trying to convey, is my opinion?

or by saying NOT SURE, MEANS, IM NOT SURE??

Everybody in here should take the meaning of my response, word for word, not just the second half of sentence, or most words of the sentence or reply.

I respect you Max!

and your feedback, and I have, everything, to learn about umpiring

If I don't like it I'm blaming you:mad:lol

what are the secrets to modifying it????

The discount only applies to purchases over $100, so you have to order a few more things, plus, depending on where you live, you may have to add sales tax.

I'll take the blame, if it's warranted! :D One thing you, my fellow umpires and colleagues, must have picked up – I'm quite thorough in my descriptions and explanations. I don't want anyone to feel duped or blindsided in their purchase choices.

You wouldn't be making a bad choice of either of those, @Tborze. The Champion P2xx is a very solid, protective piece of gear, and both of them – the Schutt/Adams and the Champion – are both tremendous values at their price points. Same could be said for the Champro, or the +POS, or the All-Star. And yes, the Douglas and the Force3 are a high price point, but at the end of the day – and this is applicable to all seven CP's I just listed out – do you want to be paying your money to a company that will progress and improve their gear, and invest in using new, modern materials, or, at the very least, try to keep production and employment here in North America? The alternative is paying for a CP that uses arcane design practices, outdated materials, produced overseas but priced so as to maintain a Big League (exclusive) license. Sounds appealing, doesn't it? But hey! The Big League guys wear it, so it must be alright... right?

There are no longer any secrets to modifying the XV in this latest HDX variant. Schutt actually observed, addressed and progressed their product as it was in use in the market – they just never publicly acknowledged it, nor privately thanked guys like me and @Razzer who made modifications on their own, likely inspiring or motivating Schutt to make those improvements. To wit, there is no longer a need to remove the default Y-yoke harness and install D-ring anchors and rigger straps on the shoulder arch plates so as to use a Flex-style harness. It now has rather streamlined bicep guards (if you're into that kind of thing), and also continues to include and allow the attachment of an abdomen extension. To really achieve a close fit, I would recommend busting out the hairdryer and heating up the shoulder arch plates and chest plate and heat-shaping them.

Just got mine back from cobbler. Hope he gets @MadMax seal of approval. E7364908-7D4E-4F63-8B75-24D102A8DF0E.thumb.jpeg.efe45cd7e1aa0a76055ffdf2143aff25.jpeg

I wanted real leather straps. And the double rectanglular hoops hold the DF straps pretty good.

Of course it gets the seal of approval. It's quite an enterprising endeavour you embarked on, especially that you used the existing Y-yoke instead of removing it like I advocate for.

I've been looking at the XV for ages, but being in Canada it's quite difficult to get across the border except used, and everyone likes them so much they don't hit the classifieds that often. Now that this new version is out, though, I'm back in the game. I don't mind my WVG, but I've never found it particularly confidence-inspiring. It's either too high or too low, it's much too warm because it basically doesn't breathe, and the default harness is totally useless.

If I've already got a @Razzer harness, do you have any recommendations other than sculpting the shoulder plates a bit more?

My personal opinion and @MadMax original MaXV has the epaulets moved upwards.  I think the shoulder gap coverage plates (epaulets) are too low.  If you move them up, it provides much greater protection in my opinion.   Max uses the existing upper hole and it becomes the bottom hole, then he drills a new hole for the upper bolt/Chicago screw.  It looks great too when completed.

Here is one Max did for me.

@wolfe_man do you know if the new version has this mod?

Still waiting on mine.  Was estimated to arrive yesterday! I'm like a kid on Christmas morning.

I haven't tried the new one yet, but pics I've seen of the new version don't look like its changed yet.

I'm sure someone will argue, if you just stay upright then those are fine where they are now; however, if you lean forward in your stance at all, then the tops of your shoulder(s) are left open to damage from a foul ball or uncaught pitch.  I guess it's a personal preference thing... to each their own.

I'm told the Adams is out-of-stock until mid-August now.  I was speaking to a Schutt rep this morning and even he can't get his hands on any.

I'm talking to an Adams dealer now. We'll see, I should hear something back today.
