What happened in the Jays game yesterday? It looked like the guy started and stopped, they called it, and then didn't call it. The only thing I could think of was that the batter either called time or stepped out and caused F1 to balk.

The batter had requested and been granted time by PU prior to the balk.

Thanks, was at a bar and they didn't have sound, was looking a couple TV's over at it, so we were confused as to what happened.

Why did Gerry Davis stand up and move from behind F2? I get that it was a balk, but F1 continued his delivery. I do everything I can to stay in my position when calling a balk from behind HP, especially if the pitch is delivered.

I guess the frequently referenced idea about not following the examples of MLB umpires for mechanics applies here?

TY, couldn't find it, but didn't know who was pitching.

Another reason not to just hold up one hand to delay the pitcher!

My guess is that he didn't think a pitch was going to be thrown, started to move, and then just kept on going once the pitch came.

I think you are way overreaching on that conclusion.  One hand is fine to hold up the pitcher..
