Have an older (late 90s early 2000s) black Douglas CP and was looking for advice on whether the TW Retrofit would be a better padding "refurbishment" than sending back to Douglas and having them put on new Douglas padding.  I know when I used a WV Gold with the TW padding I was surprised by the heaviness and density of the TW padding.

Also, has Douglas instituted a better and smaller shoulder gap modification piece than the one in this attached photo?  I have seen the posts where folks took the black instep protector flap off their triple knee Wilson leg guards and riveted these to their Douglas but that's not something I'm interested in - or have the ability to do.  I know people were doing the large Douglas flaps in the attached pic a few years ago but I was curious if Douglas does something that is smaller.  All replies are much appreciated.  Thanks!

I bought a Douglas from someone on here last year and it has the smaller shoulder gap protection. It is a thin piece of rectangular plastic that is curved to fit the shoulder area. Much smaller than the one pictured above. Just call them. I'm sure they can do it.

I am interested in the TW retrofit for my Douglas but the cost is keeping me from it. Plus the Douglas is pretty low profile already and works well for me.

Hey, that's my old one!!! :D

Anyhow ....... hey @FranklinT ............ yes .........  I actually worked with Jeff Cook to get this instituted with Douglas.  They actually have taken a collarbone shoulder plate, and trimmed it a bit to cover the gap now.   Kind of like a Wilson Gold has ...but ....better, because it sits a little lower (in front) so it protects better.  Attached is mine .......... "The Prototype" ... LOL :)

Any recollection of what this cost?  I know I have heard that the shipping Douglas charges to get a protector back to you is high.

Typically it's not any higher than it costs you to ship it to them ..........

$20 I think?   email Jeff to get a quote ahead of time:   jeffcook@douglaspads.com

I have the smaller shoulder protection as above on my Douglas and prefer it to the larger gap protection. Jeff at Douglas swapped mine out. I also had my retrofitted by Team Wendy. While I have not worn it often since the retro, my biggest complaint about the TW on a Douglas is that it made the neck opening smaller. I plan to strap it on this weekend again and will give another review.

I am a fan of TW though. My Gold that has been retrofitted by TW is my all time favorite protector.
