93% of the time, the replay with the best view is from outside. Why not be there in the first place?

The 1B side camera angle (best one) must have dropped that percentage.

Ignore his 93% -- a great number of umpires would agree that in MLB the best place most often to see a steal is from the outside.  And, since you don't have to worry about taking the runner to third on an overthrow, you could be there.

 

And, they used to be there -- so why did they change?  Are those reasons still valid?  (Serious questions -- I don't know the reasons -- one guess might be that enough balls get through to center that an umpire on the outside might get in the way.  Or, maybe an umpire on the outside can't see a dropped  / bobbled ball on the tag.)
