Hey guys,

lately ive been researching the colors that the MLB Umpires use to wear, but I cant find much more past navy. A lot are the current light blue and black, but I was curious if anybody has any photos or links that show the different colors they use to wear. I've heard a lot of people say they liked it when they wore the gray, but I cant find anything on it.

How about crisp white shirts and bow ties?

How about red (the AL wore it)? Maroon?

No matter what color they wore in the Major Leagues, you undoubtedly had a codger somewhere in amatuer who'd say, "What's wrong with what we got? There ain't no way I'm spending five dollars on those new-fangled colors!".

You might be able to get this at a local library : Elizabeth K. Martin The Development of Baseball Umpires' Uniforms, 1846-1996 Sent from my SM-G920P using Tapatalk

They wore the light blue - Dalco button-up shirts

I remember the AL wearing the light blue turtleneck and maroon plate coat (even on the bases) in the 70's. If I remember correctly, the AL and NL wore 2 different uniforms. When the did the WS, then you could tell who was from where by their uniform.

The Birmingham Barons of the South Atlantic League did a throwback game and the umpires wore the old white shirts and bow-ties.

Image result for umpires

Uhm, @Richvee? That's the current MLB Sky (Blue) shirt. I can understand the confusion, perhaps, because it is on a retro, vintage umpire, and he is wearing a retro, vintage CP that hasn't changed in twenty years (at least it seems).

My bad. Looked grey on my poor screen. I do remember a year they wore creme/white. Couldn't find a pic. I believe the players said they didn't like it as they were losing pitches in U2's shirt.

Likely whine story. If that was truly the case, if I was home team wearing home whites, I'd have my F4 and F6 run back and forth, like a football receiver in motion, while F1 delivers.

Looks grey on my screen as well.

'Tis (Sky) blue, my good sirs.

I would be all for leagues with TV exposure using shirts and jackets and plate coats of differing, progressing style, and even throwing in a "retro" game here and there. Anything helps in the War Against Monotony.

I pulled it up on another PC with a HD monitor and it still looks grey to me.

The image posted admittedly is a bit desaturated. But I can still detect the blue. The giveaway, though, is the striping (and/or lack thereof) on the shirt that reveals it to be the current Majestic style.

Not that any of this is important in the grand scheme of things. Just an observation.

I did actually like the gray shirts back when they were in use.

You "gray ghosts" may soon get your chance.

I have that exact Gray on backorder with The Official's Choice. In the meantime, I was sent their Cream (in Modern Major League style), Bermuda Blue (in Modern Major League style) and Sky blue (whaddiya know? In Modern Major League style). And they're excellent.

I've got olive drab and white. Wore the OD for first time this past Sunday. They looked really good. Told my partner that if I looked as good as he did then I was a sexy MF!  Hahaha

Jp, if I remember correctly Scott Taylor talked about working a throwback game in the big 10 where he had the old school uniform complete with the balloon!  Said he worked a couple lower level games with it beforehand just to get used to it!!
