No  problem w/ the out call on the field ....but I don't see an out here in replay.......

The issue is not whether you see an out on replay, but whether the video provides sufficient evidence to overturn the call on the field.

Apparently, the answer is "no." :)

I see U2 bang him out on a tight call, the way all tight calls should go. ;)

Ok, if I have to spell it out for everyone ........... (I understand maven's answer, .... side with the call, support, etc, etc....)

That's not what this is about.  This is about getting it right, exactly what MLB wanted.  Now, ...let's pretend YOU are in the booth, ...what is YOUR input to this replay review?

(AGAIN, I have no problem w/ the call on the field)

Who was it long ago that once responded to a runner's complaint about a late tag or a missed tag, "I didn't say he tagged you.  I said you were out."

But it appears as if the call was confirmed.  I had safe after looking at the replay. The umpire in NY did not get this one right IMO

ok ...finally someone saw what I saw.  Now, I know no one on here is in NY seeing the replays , but ...........

I think he was out just because it took him so long to get there!  Shouldn't have been close!

I saw him safe, too, Jeff.

maybe this is what you're thinking of?

That was a good read and close, but not exactly what I had in mind.  It was a long time ago.

So if its a very close call and it could go either way, instead of using your judgement just go ahead and give the defense the out?  Isn't that old school umpire thinking now with IR? ie when in doubt bang him out, etc, etc.

I had safe in real time, and on every replay angle I see safe.

I guess you either missed the emoticon in my post or failed to grasp its significance.

With the benefit of IR from various angles, I see his cleat touching the bag before the glove touches his body. From Manny's angle, and the speed of this play, I can see why he judged "Out".

Remember...they have both feeds and sometimes other views that don't make the broadcast.  They have more than one set of eyes on the play in most cases, and screens that blow yours and mine away.  I am sure that they are not 100%, but I'm gonna bet that they had a look at this one you or I didn't see.

It is only "old school" for guys with a MLB logo and number on their sleeve.  For you and I, getting an out on this type of whacker moves the game to the next frame.  I think we should be very hesitant to question the guys in the MLB-ROC.  Its bad enough that they are second guessed by fans, players, and coaches...we know how hard the job is.

I don't see enough to overturn either, the tag and foot are pretty darned close and he's probably safe but not conclusive enough to me to meet the overturn threshold.

He's out!!!!!!!! Not nearly enough to overturn, IMHO. Waaaaay to closssse! But the variation in what we all see is humbling, understanding that a bunch of really good umpires (yours truly excluded), see this one differently. This is why I can't stand a partner who will 'nitpick' 1 call in post-game, or 1 pitch. I've actually said to a partner 'Are you seriously interested in talking about that? Really? Is it not clear that there will ALWAYS be differences on a given pitch/call? Let's get over it and talk about stuff that can help us both, because discussing 1 really, really close judgment call will NOT help either of us. I called what I saw on a really close play, nuff said.' That said, if positioning or timing were an issue in making that call, I want to know for sure, and I hope my partner will care enough to tell me. So maybe the call itself doesn't come into question, but the timing and/or positioning could be addressed with humility.
