Umpire-Empire locks topics which have not been active in the last year. The thread you are viewing hasn't been active in 3542 days so you will not be able to post. We do recommend you starting a new topic to find out what's new in the world of umpiring.

I have to work all day Friday and will be leaving after work and I know I will not make it to CDP until Saturday morning.  What is the latest time you would recommend someone arriving.  Again I said latest you would recommend not latest allowed.  This will be for week 7.  I plan on stopping about 3 hours from CDP on Friday night if I quit driving around 11 PM.

You'll want to get there before they open on Saturday.  It gets really busy on Saturday morning, and even though we got there before they opened, we were lined up in our cars and then drove into other lines to eventually be able to drive close to the bunk houses to unload our stuff.  You're already at a disadvantage being able to choose your barracks and bunks getting there on Saturday.  The later you get there, the less choice you will have.

Be prepared for signs on the barracks doors saying they are full even when there are clearly available bunks.  Depending on how many umpires show up for that week, it could get very crowded and you might get stuck living in the bunk in the middle of the room (which sucks).

By the way, we flew into Newark on Friday and drove up to Albany and stayed there overnight.  Got up early in Albany and made it to CDP before they opened (not sure what time that was since it was 3 years ago).

If you notify CDP ahead of time, you can arrive at just about any time. Starting Friday, B-gate is guarded and open 24 hours. Umpires and coaches are allowed to come and go as needed at any hour, with the understanding you are not causing a nuisance.

My first year at CDP, I arrived around midnight Friday/Saturday. I had called CDP enroute, saying I was going to arrive after 9PM, and they highlighted my name on the registration list at Gate B. I had to carry my stuff in from the parking lot, but they put me in the only bunkhouse they knew had a vacancy (I can't say which one. ;) ) and it was an "Island" bunk. But thus was my CDP "career" born.

Bunkhouse Drive-In recommences on Saturday, and if I remember right, ends at 10AM (or is it 11AM? I don't remember exactly). Then, we have our Umpire's Orientation Meeting at 1PM (or is it 2PM? crap, I've forgotten). You really should be here by the Orientation.

I got to CDP at 5:30 AM on Saturday.  Then they woke me up to move my car around 6:30.  Took me to the bunks and I went in and got an open bunk then had registration at 8:00 I think it was.  This year, I'm not leaving Georgia at 3 PM.  We are coming in Friday at some point.

They start getting in line at 4:30 pm on Friday. Enter park around 30 min. later. On Saturday you come in at 8:00 am. Best to get there on Friday if you can, that way you will be able to get the bunk you want.
