I wish they were all that easy.  Had one last weekend where F2 didn't throw.  RH batter swung on a low outside pitch to protect R1, ends up past the plate and clearly in F2's throwing lane.  F2 cocks his arm and I call the interference and bang out the batter.  OC says he has to throw it.   :shakehead:

Since it was fall ball, I explained between innings that I have to judge that F2 was making an attempt to put out the runner, and in my judgment, he clearly would have thrown if not for the batter being right in his way.

C'mon, Bert.  You're smarter than that.  I hate to classify you as one of "those" broadcasters, but, comments like this make me want to do so.

Sometimes I think before you get hired to broadcast games, they don't hand you a rulebook and say learn this, but they do hand you the top 25 baseball myths list, and say "Perpetuate these as much as possible"

Guys, the people that hire broadcasters like people with recognizable names to do their games. They assume they "know" the game (And a lot of them do know a lot about baseball, being former players/managers/team executives). They're former players/managers though, and we all know the current players/managers don't really know the rules, so why would you expect the former ones to? I've just come to expect it now and I don't let it get me worked up. It's humorous actually.
