Ok ....so the call on the field is foul, which it certainly appears.  However, ..it's changed to HBP

So what point are you trying to make?? If it's that they got it wrong. I disagree with your assertion.
Did he offer? If yes then it should be called a strike.
Or are you saying that the hands are part of the bat?? so when it hits the bat and the hands it's the same thing?? :fuel::stir
If not, then the fact he was hit by the pitch and awarded 1st seems to be reasonable

you see evidence to overturn this?

No ..he didn't offer

As for the hands are part of the bat comment...just havin a little fun..sorry no offence intended
As for the what did you see question. On a play like this I go by what I HEAR as much as what I SEE.
Yes the pitch was up and in which makes it a tough call for PU.
However, what I also do in the split second when it happens is judge if I heard 2 distinct sounds as well as look for immediate actions by the batter.
In this case, in the replay your HEARD the sound of soft tissue contact, and you see reaction by the batter.

Also, On this play was a review requested or did the umpires take it upon themselves for the review?.

you're fine ....I was just givin' it back a little! :)

Very true! Understood, and I agree.  He judged that ...and appeared his judgement was correct.  On review, did you think ?

One of the toughest I'd say!

To this, ...I must agree ...the video LOOKS like it hit the butt of the bat, but it DID sound funny!

I didn't see anything definitive on replay to overturn, but maybe it was a mercy call after THE @#%@J#%^#$^ BULLPEN GAVE UP 9 F@#$%#%^$@# RUNS in the top half.

KD had only sound to go on.  I don't think he could see as he quickly turned his head away from the pitch.

Who am I to criticize someone I'm watching on TV, but, I almost expected to hear him (KD) cough.

Had a similar play to this a couple weeks ago.  We ruled HBP and the DHC argued strongly that even though the batter didn't swing, he shouldn't be awarded 1B because he started to move his hands to offer and that caused the HBP.  He said "so I can just teach my kids to move their hands into the ball and they'll get first base?"  I guess if you really want to jeopardize them breaking a bone, go for it coach.  They will say anything to try get a call...
