TV guys helpin' everyone out to understand the rule again. Sheesh.

I think the TV guys mostly understand it, but they don't like it and want the rule changed. I guess they want the B/R to be able to run wherever he wants on the way to first. 

 

Although if the call went in their favor they would be in love with the rule.

Anytime I see RLI called the manager always comes out and, often vehemently, argues the call.  It's one of the simplest rules in the game.

I agree this is textbook RLI, but as a player, I have to agree with the announcers.  Very difficult for a RH batter to deviate from shortest distance to base.  I'm gonna go ahead and come out of the closet and admit, I wish youth baseball would adopt the "double" base at first.  Might train young players the "better" path to take towards first.  Would be a bit safer too.

imagine we were to change every rule that makes it difficult for someone to do something in baseball (cause only changing one "hard to do" rule just wouldn't do)..... Might as well play softball
