Value of a Vintage West Vest w/ a Team Wendy Retrofit?

this is a rebooted thread that has turned it more into 'buy-sell-trade' , so I've moved it here.  The 'sale' discussion starts torwards the bottom of the first page

All ....

Hypothetically, ....if you had an old WV Gold, or the "Vintage West Vest" (as described in Fittske24's post of the list of CP's worn by MLB umpires thread) before it became the Gold, and had it retrofitted with Team Wendy's pads, is the value of this CP more than just the retrofit?

For example, would it be the cost of the retrofit + $30, $40, $50 more??

Would you pay MORE than $130 (TW retro cost)  for , say, a Vintage West Vest Gold with a Team Wendy's retrofit?

Just wondering ..........

I am not a gold owner but did have my v-sport retrofitted and not that I would ever think of selling I would definitely place a premium cost on it well above to cost of the retrofit. I could see a premium of at least $50-$60 on top of the $130 cost of the retrofit. I would expect a gold to yield even a higher premium.

It's a narrow market. If you're looking to sell a retro rig on eBay, there's not a lot of folks with the knowledge to understand what a TW mod is. Golds, and other WV models have a strong reputation, but you'd need two smart bidders to get a decent price on a retro.

I guess the question is: If you've a Gold laying around, and want to dump it, is spending the cash to retro it going to enhance the value beyond your cost? Naw. I'd guess my old Gold would fetch $50, and a retro'ed one might get $90. Might.

First and foremost, thanks for the comments .........and now, for the truth ....

I have 2 Douglas CPs .... one the Original West Vest by Douglas, the other, the Douglas from 2010 (black).  I also have an All-Star Sys 7, and most recent, I found a Vintage West Vest (pre-Gold) on Craigslist that I got cheap and was considering a TW retrofit.     My problem, .... the need for 4 CP's....I know I'm kind of a gear whore, but that's a little excessive, and I'm trying to figure out what to do with AT LEAST one of them.

So, thus my post.  I was looking at what type of value the vintage WV had w/ a TW retro so I can better judge which CP to possibly dump .....

Depends on your buyer. If you have two buyers who are collectors or huge gear junkies you're talking in the $225-$275 dollar range, maybe even up to $300 or more. If you've got some average joe just looking for a team wendy retrofitted west vest I would say you can probably get around $160-$180. If you've got one you're looking to sell or know someone who is selling let me know.

I'm getting mine re-done as we speak.

I found a Vintage West Vest last Fall on Craigslist in Chicago .... I nabbed it pretty cheap and thought that it would be TW capable.  My only issue is, ...it's a M/L, and I'm 5'11" 225+ (sz 46 suit) so, the XL would have been better, but ...oh well .........

see post #12 for my reason for bringing it up ....

Just sent my semi-vintage WV to get retrofitted with the "Ranger Green" color TW padding.  Don't know if they have ever done it in a color other than black before.  Should be interesting.  I also asked to get a 10" extension piece that I will have Velcro-ed to have the option of additional belly coverage, Heck, I'm 6'3" and have been enjoying my 6" extension piece that I got from Epic Sports.  I did inquire about having the padding as thin as possible and they said they could do it to 1/8" though didn't recommend it.  With the WV or Douglas or really any "hard-shell", I bet 1/8" would work just fine!  Tip-toeing toward the "wearing-nothing" look!

I bet if I was patient, I could get $250-$300 for this custom vest.  Oh, and it does come with the System 7 harness with "quick release" clips attached to the WV.

I am going to re-boot this thread.

I just sent a PM to Platejob29 as he was the first interested in this CP if I were to consider letting it go.  Platejob29 has first dibs.

However, .... you can get in line behind Platejob29 for bidding if you wish.  PM me.

pictures will be available later.

M/L Vintage West Vest w/ a Team Wendy Retrofit.  Shell is in pretty good shape, w/ rust on the rivets (can be easily cleaned).  Worn this summer in rotation w/ 2 others, so very little wear and tear.

How about I pay you for what you paid for the retrofit and you can keep the plastic. Then you should be able to put the plastic on the old padding and sell the CP for $100? What do ya think?

I'll get back to you Ken, ... I'll see what Platejob29 comes back with ....thanks!

How about if this thread is moved to the Buy, Sell or Trade section?
