I would think most of us have heard of this as a guide ( not 100%) at 2B on the DP. I haven't heard of using it elsewhere.

Isn't it the other way round?

You've got us dyslexics thinking. At 2B, if the ball goes straight down, you have evidence that the pivot man did not have secure possession of the ball when he touched the base. If the ball travels away from the glove you have evidence that the fielders hand gave the impetus and he had secure possession. As evidenced in the OP, not a real good rule of thumb.

yes I have heard of this and just pointing out that it doesn't always apply and heck to my way of thinking might never apply.  You can come up with plays where the ball goes straight down and is a drop and where it is a transfer and where it goes to the side and is a drop or is a transfer.

I liked that they got together it was short and sweet and got it right.

I wonder if Everett had second thoughts before Scoscia came out.

Once upon a time I made a call with bad timing, and immediately afterward realized I was wrong. But couldn't immediately change it because of a second play I was also responsible for (Tag out at 3rd force at 1st).  The coach came out on me and I immediately went to my partner. I told him, "I'm 90% sure I kicked it. Unless you tell me something different, I'm going to change the call.
