I agree leave the bat get the better look.

 

I don't think it hurt him here, but there was plenty of potential.

I would leave the bat alone but that's a good spot to take that play...as those who attended the clinic last weekend know...we discussed this situation - balls on the infield = pop and take a step one way or the other. Ball coming in from the outfield = stay on the hip or glove arm.
