I am not an MLB umpire, nor will I ever be an MLB umpire.  I think it could have something to do w/ angle, but I think it has more to do with him moving during critical components of the play.

I agree with @johnnyg08. If he's set, he catches the second attempt and gets that call right.

are you saying he actually didn't see the "kick-foot-swipe" ???

He probably saw it, but when you're moving it's like a blurry digital camera photo.

Yep, not being set and lack of concentration will get you every time.

It doesn't appear to be timing related. His timing looks good. 

 

Movement??? Possibly??? 

 

What can you say? I would like to have had that view they showed at the end in slo-mo in real time.
