Yep.  I agree Jeff.  I had a young individual ask the other night and I didn't grant it.  He was F2 and when he came out he said "I said time?"  I said yep, you sure did.  You ask, I grant.  I didn't grant.

I worked some tournament ball a few weeks ago 11U-13U games. We had two teams that just insisted on asking for time for everything. A kid would slide into base, pop up, and immediately ask for time. I said, "No son, you're not injured, you're fine, let's keep the ball live." Over and over this went on until a coach gave me some SH*# about it. Well, next innning comes, kis slides into second, and asks for time. I don't grant. F5 airmails throw back to the mound and the runner advances to third. I look over to the 3B coach and smile, "He says, now I see what you mean." Why wouldn't the offensive team want the ball live? I realize this is something that most of these guys learned in LL, but you would think the offensive teams would understand. This is travel ball. These are talented players that can stay on the bag.

I had a young JV coach ask for time as his runner slid into second. I call time, turned to him and said," Yes, what do you need?" He blinked about three times and sputtered nothing, sorry. He never asked for time again.

These kids watch a lot of baseball on TV so they're just emulating what they're seeing on TV.  Keep the ball alive as often as possible.
