For our readers, this is where Max pushes back from his desk and goes on one of ranting marches around his house, muttering something along the lines of why “we’ve had nothing but piles of cheap “umpire starter kit” bullish!t for years when we could have had these all along??!!”

What the readers are doing is taking bets on whether or not you will transition into a rant about Wilson and their refusal to innovate in the slightest. Lol

They're nice but kind of bulky. The protection is worth it in my opinion. I wouldn't suggest them on your Nike though because I feel like the top pad is too small for such a light mask. That's why I stick to steel.

The thickness of the top All Star pad is approximately the same as the Team Wendy or Wilson memory foam pads. They just look smaller because of the over stuffed bottom pad.

Thickness is about the same; however the top pad of the allstar is not as long as TW and Wilson memory foam.

I went to the cobalt skully to help distribute the impacts. Not a lot of headshots so far, but it's not not working. TW pads fwiw. I've mainly noticed headshots in the jaw area. I figure the skully fives me a blast plate of sorts up top, and the mag pads would match that at the jaw. What do you think? I'm a bit in trial and error mode. In the adult league I have the potential to see 90s, but haven't yet. 80s for sure.

I think the skully will help a good amount. From what I understand light masks distribute more force to your face because they don't absorb as much. Maybe I'm more old school, but I sold my All Star mag because I thought it was too light. I took a LL pitch to the head and it actually rattled me more than a men's league or 18U foul. I think masks have gotten a little too light for safety without a skullcap or one of those Gerry Davis con cushions. However, the Mag pads are really, really good for jaw impacts. I can say that the difference between them and Honig's on a jaw shot is night and day.

Thought my set up was nice until I found this thread… need to up my game

Champro Rampage Magnesium Silver

TW Pads, Wilson Harness, 4” Rawlings TG, Champro Visor

Thoughts? Suggestions?

Only thing I can come up with is maybe a longer tg and a neoprene harness.

Beyond that... nice rig

Any suggestions for a longer matte black tg? Not a fan of how the glossy ones look. All star cobalt from ump attire might look good

Thanks for the kind words and help

Pretty much where I would go. All Star also has other ones you can find on ebay and such that are not glossy.

I might actually lean towards the Mizuno one on the market. The vents kind of remind me of the Rampage.

Love this look. As minor as this is (from someone that used to have this) I’d replace the “strings” holding your throat guard on with some snap ones. Won’t stand out as much. It’s the only thing that doesn’t look clean. I think that would take it from an A to an A+.

Good call! Those leather straps get brittle and will break. Is also doesn't allow the tg to move.

If you are going for the "stuck in place" (think mask set ups like the one Adam Hamari uses), then that is fine. If you are wanting it to move some. The leather straps won't allow that to happen.
