maninblack69
My Wilson Dyna Lite with Doe skin padding, Diamond sun shield and Champro 4.5" vented throat guard - just arrived today :-) ImageUploadedByTapatalk1368205437.633477.jpg If your wearing your hat correctly, why do you need a sun shield? Mostly just like the look of it with the sun shield rather than without it.. Wasn't that expensive so figured why not.. May have a little extra benefit of deflecting the sun, but we'll see.. First time out on the field this year Monday and Tuesday :-)
JHSump
Let's see...some laying on a wood floor, some on carpeting, some on a kitchen floor, on a couch, in a car, in groups, with straps up and straps down, face up, face down, with a towel,... BalkHawk
What's nerdy about a steel-and-foam mask that allows me to stare down a force that would otherwise cave in my face?
gnhbua93
Just sent 2 masks to Mask-It. My Champro black frame. It had one spot that was flaking. Trying to go Matte Black with it. Also sent an All-Star MVP4000TI cage in. The silver/gray finish that it came with was starting to oxidize. Similar to what has been reported on some of the new style All-Star frames. Getting it powder coated sliver. Also hoping he can fix a damaged weld. Will post pics when get them back....next thing I am trying to coordinate is getting my old MVP4000 shell painted Matte Black. When all the paint/powder projects are done I will have two sweet MVP4000TIs and two great standard masks as well. I will of course post pics. Mask-It is the best.

MadMax
For games wherein I wear Navy (boring!), Powder Blue, Red or White (anything with Navy trim)... I have an All-Star FM4000 w/ Tan Team Wendy pads and a Honig's navy harness... For games wherein I wear Black, Grey, Vintage (Cream), Pink or MLB Powder (anything with Black trim)... I have a Diamond DFM-iX3 w/ tan MacGregor doeskin pads and the standard Diamond harness... I can already tell I'll need to send the FM4000 to Mask-It (per you guys' advice) at the end of the season. The mask has performed splendidly, but a smart foul-ball does leave a tarnish scar on the rather flimsy paint job. A U14 catcher was using one the other day, and his is so beat up, it looks like dull plastic. Then again, he throws his mask on every action play.

Hey Madmax, I have been looking at the All Star FM4000, what did you think of the stock padding on it? I have an FM4000 and the stock pads are fine for me. The fabric is not grabby and the have the right amount of give without being too soft or too hard.

MadMax
@midtnump - It wasn't that the stock All-Star pads were _bad_, it's that the Team Wendy's were that much better, and were tan. I actually ordered a FM4000 in Navy, which came with Navy pads and a for-helmet harness (and it cost less than the FM4000UMP), and changed out those parts myself. I'm keeping the Navy pads and harness in my bag just in case I find myself in a situation to catch one more time... I'm selling my heavy Rawlings PWMX from my (long ago) summer in Single-A, and this All-Star will suffice. The stock pads for the Diamond DFM-iX3 are a different story... Burn those, and then scatter the ashes across a great distance, preferably several counties at least. @boyinr - Isn't that FM4000 a nifty mask? It's got some character to it. The FM4000 is based on the cage of the MVP (hockey style) 2500/4000 cage .... and tested just like All-Star tests all of their masks
GregoryD
I recently did a JV tournament here in TN and saw a umpire with a white mask with black pads...question is that acceptable to wear? Umpire in Chief
Yes that is acceptable. My first few years I used the tremendously heavy +POS red doublebar mask with red kangaroo pads.
