So I'm new around here, but why does the Adidas (and to a lesser extent the Nike) seem to have a cult following around here?

It's been discontinued, right?

You actually have them backwards. The following is for Nike. And by extention, Adidas and Reebok, who used the same design (aka "planform") as Nike. But with a different material.

The reason for the following is because they are not available through normal retail channels like you would find for Wilson, Diamond, All Star, and so on. They can only be purchased through private sellers. Or be given to you by the company in question (or by someone the mask was given to by said company).

All the Nike masks you will see are almost 100% titanium. While Adidas (and Reebok) are all going to be hollow steel.

And guys like wearing the hollow steel?   I would be worried that it would bend from an average foul ball.

Plus, not sure if there are any studies but I would think hollow steel would send more of the impact to your face/jaw.

Yes. @MadMax, our resident gear expert, wears almost exclusively hollow steel. In the case of the Adidas hollow steel compared to the Nike titanium, the weight difference is nominal. Something like a half or quarter of an ounce.

As for force to the jaw, and I'll beat the afore mentioned MadMax to the punch here, has much more to do with pads than it does the mask itself.

What mask set up are you currently wearing, if I may ask?

Agree here!
@Beacher80 ....Many times/places on this site (here in the equipment forum) it's been discussed that pads are king, not the mask itself.
Do a search on the equipment forum to find an incredible amount if information about masks and pads.
@MadMax has dropped the mask knowledge on us many times and it's invaluable!

Many pros and normal guys like us wear/have worn hollow steel masks with no issues whatsoever.

So like I said, I'm new to this gig, but I have a Champion bm300.  Done 100 games or so and have been moving up levels, so I'm looking to upgrade my mask and probably grab some Team Wendy pads.

I was figuring I would get a wilson dyna-lite, but maybe ill do some more research first.   I want a good view, but not the low profile bars.

@Beacher80, definitely do some research. Dyna-Lite is not a bad choice (with Team Wendy pads) and there are other cages to consider as well. All-Star (a brand I had not considered until just this year due to some interesting videos posted here on Umpire-Empire) in particular is doing a lot of interesting things not only with materials but, also geometry and their own in-house padding. And of course, Force3 is all about innovation and advancement. Finally, a small manufacturer called Windpact have brought some new protective ideas to market that (like Team Wendy) they have field proven with the military. Many of us here are hoping Windpact will retail their pads separately from their UnderArmour cage partner. So, look around here and across the web. There are lots of interesting things going on in the umpire equipment world and feel free to ask questions. We all enjoy a good hot-stove discussion about gear!

The Adidas you are talking with Codizzle about would suit for what you are looking for. I also have several masks available (with Team Wendy pads if you like) at different price ranges.
