Ok, ...a no doubter for sure, ... but ... Doesn't Hallion appear to kind of caught sleeping, as if he didn't realize the play was happening? He just looks so far away? Granted, I've never worked 4 man, so I don't know, but .....

Great throw. I've never worked 4 man either but I think his positioning is ok. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Maybe he was a little far. Here are 3 other videos of steals of 3rd. Look at the positioning here.

based on those 3 videos, he was miles away

True but there could be something were missing. Lets wait for someone who knows 4 man mechanics to jump in on this before we draw conclusions.

He was probably pinned back by F5's position. The entire infield in the video looked to be pretty deep, not to mention F5 arrives half a step late and on a full sprint. With that said, maybe Tom likes to take tag plays from a deeper position than most.

In the "other" videos, video 1 features a LH batter, so F5 is going to be tighter to the plate, allowing U3 to move tighter to 3B. Video 2, Hudson hustles into position but is still moving as the play unfolds and only slams on the breaks when he is about to punch out R2. He sees the play from deeper than it appears. He is not even in the camera frame when the tag is applied. In video 3, you can see F5 playing only a few steps behind the baseline, therefore, again, allowing U3 to start tighter to 3B.

Watching them again, Hudson and Hallion see the play from approximately the same spot - Hudson has elected to take a greater angle and has taken an extra step into foul territory - but Hudson calls it from much closer because he continues to move forward.

Hallion is fine.

I think he's just right. IMO I think some of the MLB guys get to close. But they have seen millions of plays and are on cruise control.

As noted he was fine. Some guys start deeper than others as a matter os course. The F5 can push you back which isn't a problem on the U1 side, no steal. On the U3 side it can bite you.
