What? You mean I shouldn't listen to these guys?

You can listen but you might either get frustrated or laugh uncontrollably

F2's hand contacted Van Slyke on the throw. Contact isn't required, but it makes it easier to call. Scully got it wrong, but he's one of the best in the business. Hack Harrelson couldn't sniff Vin Scully's microphone.

Is he calling the interference on the bat hitting the catcher or the small movement the batter took and got in the way of the catcher? We had a similar situation during HS playoffs the other day where the bat hit the catcher but the batter stepped out of the box also so he was called for interference (I was not umping).

The bat never hit the catcher. Van Slyke stepped in F2's way and F2's hand contacted him (on the right hip) on the follow through on the throw.

On your situation, if it's Fed rules, and the bat hits the catcher while the catcher is attempting to make a play, then the batter is out for interference. There is no "backswing interference" in Fed. In OBR, there is a separate rule for backswing interference which would allow for the runner to be returned without getting an out on the batter. This is also considered "weak" interference in some interpretations.

Yes, he had more than a clue. He originally thought they called backswing INT. Once he saw Van Slyke head to the dugout he knew the call had been batter's INT. There's none better than Vin. Probably knows the rules better than any other announcer.
