A full Pro School is just not realistic for 2010 (maybe if i get laid off...lol) So I am wondering.... What is my best value for a clinic or camp? Is a 3-day event long enough for a novice? Where is the best bang for the buck to be found?

Thanks...

A two or three day can be great. I'm not sure what is in your area.

Well... there is a Wendelstedt Clinic scheduled for some time in March. That is the only thing that I know of locally. I am guessing that it will be a 3 day event.

I don't mind traveling a bit if the investment is really worth the increased cost.

It's well worth the trip. Your brain will come home abound with rules, mechanics, and some good friends established along the way.

This event would be about a 2 hr. drive, and, based on what I have seen from them, probably about 150 dollars + a couple of nights in a hotel. All in all I'm guessing it will be about 300.00 give or take a little.

I think this amounts to about 40/50% less than it would cost to go to one of the Evans Classics.

I'm going to the Southern Umpires Camp in February. It's a 4 day camp for $425. Not bad and they're affiliated with the Wendelstedt School. It is a 2 man camp and designed for beginners as well. Atlanta is a major hub so tickets are probably not going to be that bad from almost anywhere.

Since I am in So Cal, I am going to wait and see what the details of the So Cal Wendelstedt clinic are (final cost, dates, instructors, etc.) before I decide. But the Southern camp is another one I am considering as well. I hear good things about it and in particular, that Paul Nauert is an incredible instructor.

I just went to Evans clinic in New Jersey, paid for the clinic, the flight, room, rental car, some food, beer, porn..LOL

but going and listening to Jim and having him actually on the field with you( I had one drill where he was throwing pitches at you) was worth it... I have been to alot of College clinics, and this one was great.. I would go again.

Being in SoCal you also have the MLB Clinic at Compton College in LA. Its about $500 total I think if you have your own place to stay... maybe less. That usually happens some time in November (there is a link to it on the MLB site if your willing to try and look for it). Also there is a new NCAA camp that is starting next November in the Sacramento area called Black and Blue Umpire Camp or BBUC. If you want, PM me and I can try and send you the info.

I am going to a Gerry Davis clinic in Stockton , ca. Jan. 15-17.

The MLB clinic in Compton is 899.00 for commuters. Still, something to think about.

Sacramento is certainly within the realm of possibility.

Thanks for the ideas..

Man, I was raised in Tracy and had been bugging the tar out of Scott Ehrett to come out and do a Gerry Davis clinic in the Central Valley. Then I move to LA and from there to Portland, OR and now you tell me they are doing a clinic there. ARGH!

Anyways, the MLB clinic is great fun. I have only done the on field stuff on that final saturday which was some what cheap ($10-$15 because my HS association got me in for that) but I have always wanted to do the week long class at the Hilton in downtown Long Beach.

I just got the BBUC information for the NCAA clinic in Sacramento. Dick Runchey is the keynote speaker and I know a bunch of the guys that are instructors there (evidently, MLB umpire Laz Diaz will also be attending but I dont know in what capacity). The cost is $525 which includes lodging (talk about a great deal). If you PM me I can send you the info on it that I have.
