"Call Up" umpires and the number of games worked in 2011 are as follows

(total MLB games worked through 2011 are in parens)

Todd Tichenor--------135==(495)

Mike Estabrook-------119==(475)

Angel Campos--------111==(473)

Mike Muchlinski-------116==(335)

D.J. Reyburn-----------109==(257)

Vic Carapazza---------133==(162)

Alan Porter-------------121==(156)

Cory Blaser-------------110==(122)

Chris Conroy-------------78==(83)

John Tumpane----------68==(74)

Manny Gonzalez--------42==(53)

David Rackley------------47==(53)

Mark Ripperger-----------41==(45)

Lance Barrett-------------39==(42)

Mark Lollo-------------------8==(8)

Clint Fagan------------------6==(6)

Tyler Funneman-----------1==(1)

Carapazza, Blaser, and Porter saw the biggest gains from the previous year at 104, 98, 86 games respectively.

It looks like call ups are probably paid at the rate of a first year MLBU umpire based on a 162 game schedule since they do not get vacation. This would be about $800 per game or 100k per 125 games, plus a per diem of around $400. Several call up umpires should have made over 100k for their work last year.

Tichenor should have the Hohn spot. If the current contract makes it advantageous to retire in 2011, there could be other openings based on past contracts. If the contract does not make it advantageous to retire in 2011, then there will probably not be any retirements until the next advantageous time either after the 2012 or 2013 season. Of course, there have been umpires on the DL in each of the last 2 seasons which opened a full time DL slot for a MiLB umpire. We will find out if anyone will be placed on the 2012 DL later in the Spring if things go as they did in the past. Estabrook and Campos have worked the most call up games, but they were jumped over by Dan Bellino last year as was Tichenor. Will be interesting to see who goes next after Tichenor.

2011 Arizona Fall League. Umpires seen in box scores for games. Guess these umpires have a job for next season.

Jordan Baker, Chad Whitson, Barry Larson, Stephen Barga, Mark Lollo, Eric Loveless, Adam Hamari, Chris Segal, Chris Ward, Clint Fagan, Tripp Gibson, Kellen Levy, Shaun Lampe, Angel Campos, Cory Blaser, John Tumpane.

Umpires seen so far in the Carribean Leagues

Dominican.

Quin Wolcott, Will Little, Tim Rosso

Venezuela.

Sean Barber, Brian Hertzog, Travis Carlson, Luke Hamilton, Manny Gonzales

Puerto Rico.

Kelvin Bultron

Seen in Australian League.

Jon Byrne, Brett Robson

FWIW Chris Graham from the EL retired from MiLB to spend more time with his family.

This is what the emails at work say when the person gets fired.

He was promoted from the Carolina to the EL in the middle of last season. If they saw something they didn't like, why bother promoting him?

But I can text him right now and ask if you'd like. :rolleyes:

your list is almost accurate... it is missing a few people.. we have had some guy s "hang it up" and some others get released... your CPL list is off, and the AZL, Gulf Roast , and Appy, and NY-Penn are off....

Not being on the inside, I do not have your official list and can only use the box scores from opening night. There could be local fill-ins that I would obviously not know.

Serveral Leagues opened on different dates and some opening day names are different from last night. Sorry

6/21 Arizona League

Dodgers vs Brewers---HP Richard Tucker; 1B Williams, III---Taylor Grace was opening day 6/20 rather than Tucker and could be a local that I alluded to unless they are carrying extra.

Appy-

Opening day 6/21 are above, but there could be fill-ins if some contract MiLB are not there.

GCL

Opening day above is as listed

6/21 saw Tim Hromada, Sam Vogt---and Nick Garvey that missed opening day----------Jeremy Rehak, Scooter Morrison, and Ryan Wills are extra or fill-ins

NY Penn

Alex Tolfi is now working instead of Jason Visconti who opened up.

CPL is from the web page but may not be current

Obviously Vogt, Garvey, and Freed have moved up to GCL

Since main page has not been updated, I will have to use box scores. They had been matching up until recently when some moves were probably made.

I'm working on the final accuracy and will probably have to update, especially if some have left at the half-way point. This was the best I could do since the short season just opened and thought I would get it out there.

I wish there was a way to know a rotation list for the MLB umpires. So you could know who was calling and when. Might be I have just not ever been able to find it.

You won't see it. They don't want it to influence betting on the games. Amongst other things, that is 1 reason I heard they don't.

Maybe because of this (below) from the Las Vegas Insider. I gave an example since I could not cut/paste it in without the problem that has happened to me on the first post. The insider has the line on every umpire in the form presented below.

I think Mr. U is probably right on with this answer.

Also, I would imagine there is a security aspect to this equation. They have become tight lipped on announcing playoff assignments in advance also.

Advance knowledge could only influence the first game of the series. Once the crew is in town, the bookies know the rotation for the other games. I do not know when the betting on a game "closes" in relation to the start time of the game, but the preview on "gameday" may show the umpires a little bit before the starting time of the game.

I would imagine that jer$off in the NBA has led to the tightening in this area also.

Umpire-------------------ave runs-----------------games----------------under------------over---------------k/game--------bb/game-----------k/bb.

umpire ABC-------------9.16------------------------19-----------------------7------------------12-----------------15.3--------------6.6--------------2.3.

Wagers on the outcome are usually taken up to the start of the game. I've never sat in a sportsbook meeting, but I doubt the officials swing at all in the numbers. If it were that important, there would be a way to find out which umpires were going where (people talk).

There is a small possibility that some over/unders are swayed, such as Ks for a pitcher; however, I think there's a lot more that goes into it than what umpire's behind the plate.
