Varsity baseball - Fed Rules; R1 & R2 double steal w/ less than two outs. Right handed B1 takes pitch over the inside corner for a strike. F2 receives the ball, and then steps back and to his left to throw around B1 in an attempt to retire R1 at 3B. As F2 plants his foot, he steps on my left foot, stumbles as he throws to F5 covering the bag, and ends up on the ground. I never moved my feet as I hammered a strike. R1 is safe without much of a play and as F2 is sitting on the ground, he looks to the dugout for help saying,"I stepped on his foot." Waddya got?

I was a parent at a game for my 14u son a few days ago. From the beginning of the game there were some bad call, which I dismissed as the usual biased view of calls. But soon these calls escalated into calls with no basis in the rules. Balks were called with the explanation of "We're the umpires, we know it's a balk, trust us." This explanation was given for many calls. It then escalated even more when the umpire began making immature comments like, "Just shut up" "Quit complaining" "Just deal with it" and "You clearly don't know the rules of baseball". Every time our coach attempted to ask a question the ump ignored him and when the coach asked to get the rulebook from his car so the ump could explain he threatened to throw the coach out of the game. Then, after the end of the game, the coach attempted to get the umpires name to talk to the league director and the umpire ignored him and walked to the parking lot. After packing everything up the coach saw the umpire standing outside his car getting ready to leave so he went up and attempted to talk to him once more. The umpire proceeded to slam the door of the car and drive away from the field. At what point does an umpire cross the line? How do you react when this happens to you?

Does anyone have any connections or reside currently in South Korea. I am on the block to be moving their in 2014 and would like to continue umpiring baseball aboard at any level possible. I know the high schools play baseball as well as semi and pro leagues. Thanks in advance.

Travled to Kansas City for their game against Baltimore last night (7/22). The Orioles won 9-2 in kind of an uneventful game, but none the less, it turned out to be a great time spent with my father. It has been a while since the last time I had the chance to go to a MLB game, so I enjoyed every bit of it. C.B. Bucknor was behind the plate, Crew Chief Dale Scott was at 1B, Bill Miller at 2B, and at 3B was Todd Tichenor. After the game however, I had the opportunity to meet the umpire crew!! After standing outside of the roped-off "Home Plate Gate" for almost an hour after the game, chatting with other fans and finding out this is where the umps walk out of, they finally appeared. Todd Tichenor is from Kansas, and had family at the game, so he did not leave with the other crew members. This absolutely made my night and I was so grateful that they stopped to talk to me for a few minutes. C.B. was such a nice guy, as was Dale Scott too. Bill Miller kind of walked on to start their car, but CB and Dale both stood to talk to me for a few minutes. They both were excited to hear I was going to TUS in January and wished me the best of luck. Scott said, "Well hopefully I'll be retired in 10 years so you can have my spot!" Haha! I wish! Only time will tell. Overall, awesome experience to meet these wonderful guys. Thought you all would enjoy! Anyone have pictures/met any MLB guys? Here is our picture:

I'm sure there have been other topics like this, but I thought about this driving home from the fields last night, thought I would post a topic for it. CATCHER PET PEEVES All catchers have pet peeves of umpires, and are always willing to tell stories or complain. (Tight zone, Hand on back, trying to talk to them, etc..) But what are pet peeves WE, AS UMPIRES have for them? They can be our friend at times, protect us, and sometimes help us out, but them can also be our worst nightmare. Feel free to start posting your personal pet peeves that catchers do, and we'll see where this goes!

I currently have the FM2000UMP and I like it because of the curved forehead pad that fits nicely against my forehead. I looked at the Wilson line and it`s not shaped like that. My all-star is 18.5oz. The FM4000UMP is a little bit lighter, but is it worth it? I only got my FM2000UMP last year.

Big question. LL Rules. Is Umpire interference limited to interference with a throw? Situation: R3, 1 out, Pitch in the dirt, Catcher and Umpire go same direction and catcher's movement essentially trips the ump, who reaches out to keep his balance and basically knocks the catcher down on the ground, impeding his scramble to the ball so the catcher cannot make a play on R3 scoring from third base. Umpire rules ump interference and puts runner back on third. Long story, short, a big discussion ensues and the ump is overruled cuz apparently they read the rules and figured out that Ump interference only applies to a throw from the catcher. Can Blue invoke 9.01© in this situation?

We are in the playoffs against a team that is just wild!! We've played them before and when at their home field the umpires they use let them get away with everything, it drives us crazy!!!! So we have a game that was suspended because of darkness, it's a play off game and it was tied up. We are finishing the game next week but I want to KEEP the same ump! It was at our field and I know they didn't like some of the calls that were made, but they were by the book, this time they just happened to benefit us instead of them. This is only the second time we've had this umpire and the time before he was great too, the other coaches have never had a problem with him. Is there a rule or any reason NOT to have the same guy back? Thanks!

Just want to get some thoughts on equipment as I get back into the fray. I've got some ideas on what I want to get and it seems I've come to a couple choices on both the mask I want and the chest protector. I need experienced input to help finally choose one or the other. Tell me the GOOD, the BAD and what is the Biggest consideration to take into account in the choice. I found both items of each brand in the same price range, so it won't be based on that. If there is another comparable Brand/Model in the same price range, feel free to add that info too before I pull the trigger. Thanks in advance for your help. Hey everybody. Please call me Axe. I have recently got the umpiring bug again, as I took something like a 20 yr break from it. I don't even remember why I stopped in the first place. I hope I can make some sort of contribution here as well as learn/relearn a few things. I have to note that this forum struck me as the place to be, as an umpire, to discuss umpiring and everything related. Thanks for that.

This is me behind the plate in a bronco game. I tried to incorporate the advice you gave me (wider stance, vocalize balls, don't call obvious fouls, say "foul" instead of "foul ball", ect.) I am looking for some charcoal grey pants, but all I see are ones that need to be altered, which takes additional time. I need my pants rather quickly, so I was wondering if anyone knows of a place where I can get relatively cheap pants that come sized (34/32) Any help is appreciated.
