I have been looking at their plate pants...the color is hard to tell. Are they heather or charcoal? Most guys in my area are going to charcoal only. Since I am fairly new and still have gear to buy I want to get what everyone is going to not away from.

I have been using antibacterial wipes for cleaning and then spray with Lysol and let air dry. That works really well and does not take very long to complete. On a side note: There was a post yesterday from Scuzz that included applying Armor All or its equal to the outer shell. He said this will allow "the shirt or pants to glide right on by". That sounds like it should work and I will be trying it out tonight.

I love my McDavids compression tights, except for two things: The cup seldom gets "seated" right; and You have to wash them without softener So I've tried the jock outside the tights with the cup in the jock, and that's better. and I wash the tights with my uni pants without softener. Works For me.

I use the WV Plat and clean it several times during the season. Remove the pads from the hard shell. Spray the pads, both sides, liberally with a simple green solution [or simple orange] and don't worry about how much you use...rub the heck out of it with your hands or with a clean towel. While the padding is air drying....clean the hard shell...lightly spray on the simple green/orange and wipe down both sides of it! Follow that up with a spray down of Armor All or the Turtle Wax version...and wipe it down! Spray and wipe with the Armor All [or like] from time to time...as well as your leg guards....helps allow the shirt and pants to "glide right on by"! Later, Scuzz

I love the Smitty pants. I still think they are the best value out there. They breath very well even in warm weather.

I do the laundry a couple times a week. My clothes don't get that dirty enough to wash them all the time.. I was a little concerned this year when buying the pants, they're pretty expensive, but they're worth it. And the flex fit helps on those day you've eaten a lot. haha

Thanks Mike, you too, Nate. They're shipping today priority mail, so hopefully I'll have them by Saturday, if not then Monday at the latest. What started this was I was sitting next to my stepson in the Evans clinic last weekend. The GD's I had on I bought before last season, and he had on a pair of GD's he got a few months ago. I was looking at his and mine next to each other, and his were in fact charcoal, while mine were looking more on the green side. I'm going to start with the base and plate I ordered, and if I like them, I'll order another set. Then for high school next year when it's cooler, I'll order a couple pairs of the honigs poly-wool. That should get me through the next couple of seasons anyway. I don't know about you all, but I go through 2 pairs of pants each season. Maybe it has to do with the fact that I am doing 130-175 games a year. My goal is to get a rotation of 5 base and 5 plate. I'm tired of late night laundry after games.

Yeah, I buy all my stuff from ump-attire, they're great people. I get my uniforms through honigs since they do deals for my association. But all my gear and pants have come from ump-attire.

I can echo Dave's problems with the POS jackets and the Honig's jackets. I also had to resew around the arms several times when they ripped. I will say that mine waited until the 2nd time that I wore it before it ripped the first time. and it was always around the rear shoulder area and underarm area. I will add that the navy blue is darker on the Honig's jacket and just looks sharper. I have the regular bottoms, not the elastic, so I can tuck the jacket inside my pants when in use. They also run a size large and, up until this year when I (ahemmm) "grew" a little bit, I actually weighed 225 and wore a size Large Honigs coat over my CP. I have now upsized to the Honig's XL while tipping the scales at a lean , mean, fighting machine, 240 and it still fits comfortable over my POS BB2000 gladiator protector. I still wear the L while on the bases and it feels roomy. But they do attract lint pretty bad. Just a question about the POS site. Is Dan just back temporarily selling off what's left, or is he attempting a comback ?

I personally like the Shock Doctor line. Great for baseball and hockey. They have compression shorts and pants and all types of stuff. Cup very flexible and moved with you yet stays where it needs to.

I too bought a pair of the Smitty combo dark grey. I like them very much and will get a pair of plate pants next.

I have a pair of these and like them too. Just make sure to use the button on the inside of the waistband right below the clasps so that the pants stay at the correct waist size while you're wearing them

There's got to be a tailor shop near you. Most dry cleaners will hem pants in my town. I get mine hemmed higher in the front than in the back. Then you don't get the bunched up look at the top of your plate shoes that most guys get when they're standing up.

Just a note that I constantly try to get through my wife's head to no avail. Be a smart shopper when you're comparing prices check out the tax (if it applies) and shipping and handling charges. Company "A" may have one of the products less expensive than company "B" but you negate your savings by paying 2 S&H charges and could even end up paying more. Also look at free shipping. Last year I bought my CP and 2 pairs of pants from Ump-Attire which was just under their free shipping limit so I added a cap or ball bag to meet their free shipping limit and actually saved money by buying more...

Hey all, Nylon/spandex "running" pants with two pairs of tube socks provide good compression and cushion for the shin guards rubbing against the legs. I prefer the nylon/spandex under the shins because the knee area of the shins will move a little easier when you need them to flex. Bigdog:cool:

Used my OLR for the first time yesterday, and was very happy with it. I carry all of my shirts, pants, and what not on a clothes rod in my back seat, so I just opened up a back door, set up my OLR right outside the door, and got changed. I am 100% sold on this product, and highly recommend it. I'm not one who even likes to stand around in my tights for all to see, especially in this day and age, and being around kids. Some people just don't appreciate it, so this product fits the bill. Storing it back in the bag has become very easy, all it takes is a few times to get the hang of it. The only complaint I have about it is, the velcro fastener that closes the corner you step into could be isn't sewn on as good as it could be. I can defirnitely see a time in the not too distant future where I am going to have to get it re-sewn, or replaced, but it's a minor gripe, and very cheap to repair when that time comes. Hopefully the person from company that posts here will see this and respond. I am also going to send the suggestion via email to the company.

I wanted to offer a different perspective of the shoes... a pic of the Reebok shoes worn (actually these are plates, not base). The point of providing the pic is showing that there's not as much white visible when wearing the pants.

GD dark gray slacks vs. Honigs ultimate slacks

For sure wasn't thinking about combos, I like to have separate pants that fit each application, not a compromise between plate and base slacks. I knew it was only a matter of time before the poly-wools came up, and I think I will end up just spending the extra to get them. BUT, do the poly-wool slacks have to be dry cleaned every time I wash them or can I run them through the washer and hang dry them? -

If you want pants to last. Have not worn the ultimates but they are not as good as poly-wools. I had GD. They were nice and light and looked okay but did not wear well for me. The picked a couple places. Whatever you do, do NOT get combos. They suck for both plate and bases. -
I did a search for this here and came up empty while the search feature on "that other" board was not even working at all when I tried.. But, did I read somewhere that the charcoal pants will be the REQUIRED color beginning in the '10 season?? Thanks in advance

I also wore the hexpad pants last season and would recommend them. Nice protection through the thigh area.

What do you think of the McDavid line of Hexpad items? I think the pants seem seem like a good idea, but the padded shirt seem a bit too much. Would you use it? And if you have I'd love to hear about it.

I usually dress in my sliders/cup protector at home, then throw on shorts. If the mom's mind me in black spandex when i put my pants on then I might have to buy one of these things. Most of the time it is the front seat, and a quick look around to avoid the gawkers.
