    All-Star FM2000 mask

       (1 review)

    Umpire in Chief

All-star_fm2000ump.thumb.jpg.9a502a223e2Built like a roll cage, the FM2000UMP is a durable mask with great protection.

The curved forehead, just like the FM4000, allows for more padding to come in contact with the umpire's head to help disperse impacts.

The steel wire used to make this mask is hollow. Not only does it reduce the weight but at the same time increases the cage's strength.  This cage also features our I-BAR VISION™ construction, where the horizontal bars around the eyes are flat for increased vision.

LUC pads are lightweight and wrapped in moisture wicking material that doesn't pull or snag facial hair scruff.  These pads are also machine washable, just let them air dry.

    Traditional Harness Included.

    WEIGHT: 18.5oz

I am lucky enough to be able to post a review and provide some first impressions of the newest umpire specific traditional mask. It is the FM2000UMP from All Star.

The first impression is that this mask is light. It measured in at about 19 ounces. This is a single bar mask. It appears to be built like a roll cage with 3 connected subframes and added bracing as needed. The viewing area is very good. The workmanship and welds are very good. It has a powdercoated black finish.

The mask has been designed to be different than a catchers by moving the bar at the top away from the forehead. The design moves the frame approx 1.5" out. This change is not noticable while wearing the mask. But I am sure it will be on the first ball that hits near that area. All Star has done some serious testing on this mask. If you go to http://www.youtube.com/user/AllStarS.../0/6NyG9LSjnto you can watch how this mask handles a 90+ mph ball to the various areas of the frame.

The pads are microfiber. The material seemed to be fine enough that it did not grab my stubble. They feel very solid without being too stiff. they are of a new design and they come up higher on the cheek that the pads on my All Star FM25. The mask has a traditional harness.

I have worn an All Star FM 25 mask for 4 years. They are a great piece of gear. If you are in the market for a new mask I would highly recommend the new All Star FM2000UMP.
