    Wilson-Pro-Platinum-Shin-Guards-WTA3417.These umpire shin guards provide the same nylon shell-on-foam padding construction and similar hard shell ankle protection as the Wilson Professional model, but in a lighter weight, double knee setup.

    • Unique double knee design provides some above-the-knee protection.
    • Contoured inner padding is nylon shell with foam for superb comfort to both knee and leg - same padding design as Wilson Platinum and Gold chest protectors - and also extends enough around the leg to prevent rubbing from strap hooks.
    • Floating middle knee for better flex upon bending
    • Expanded ankle hard shell plates over nylon shell and foam for maximum ankle protection
    • Instep plate provides protection when worn with field shoes, or can be removed for use with plate shoes. The instep plate is attached with velcro and easily removed.
    • Contains MLB logo and "W" Wilson logo on each side of ankle plate
    • Weighs approximately 4lbs
    • Shell color matches both Wilson Platinum and Charcoal chest protectors.

    I have used there shin guards for a while, that being said I am sorry to say that I would not recommend buying them.  Last week I took a foul ball off my knee that hurt alot. After the game I found that the shin guard was dented where the ball hit me. Tonight I got hit on the other knee and now have a  nice bruise on it. These shin guards do not protect your knees.

    I am going to give them away or throw them away.

    Very comfortable and great protection. I almost forgot they were there. Never slipped or moved around. The fit is great. Mine have the newer padding (same as the gold) and this might be a little hot in the summer. Highly recomended.

    I decided after 12 years of umpiring to change to a new shin guards. I started selling Wilson gear in my business and figured I should at the least have the gear that I was going to sale. The first game I did with these on I took one off the left knee and I NEVER felt it. There is a lot of padding in them. They are light and feel great when I wear them. I never use the top strap and the strap behind the knee I wear very loose.
    They are a great guard and so much better than the +POS ones I have been wear since 1997.

    I like them well enough. The top straps could be better designed. I might just wear a wrap around my knees and that should stop any problems there. Other than that, all the protection you need.

    I bought these shin guards for this year and I love them. Very light and don't rub behind the knees as bad as I expected.

    They're okay. I've a had a pair of these for several years now. A friend has a pair of the black ones, and they are a much higher quality, but thicker, guard.

    I'm not too sure how much protection you actually need, though. I've been wearing hockey official shins for a couple of seasons, and haven't felt one yet. They're lighter, thinner, cooler, and more comfortable. Oh, and about 1/3 the price. Besides that...........

    I'm always an advocate of wearing pro gear. I'll make shinguards the exception. As long as your covered by plastic and padding, I think you're okay (and I think I just jinxed myself).

    I've been wearing these guards for 1,5 seasons now, and I am really very satisfied. I bought the first charcoal guards with the extra padding like the black West Vest Pro, and I wonder where the app $40 price difference comes from. (in The Netherlands the price difference is even bigger: 50 euro equals to more than $60!)
    I've taken the occasional full shot without flinching, and the adjustable ankle plates also proved to be very good.
