    Tee ball

The defense got the asvantage here so give the offense the next advantage by letting the batter hit a real ball off a tee.
  2. If theres no uniform requirements as stated then I prefer shorts and a grey t-shirt but theres always some sort of uniform requirements. lol. Polo blue looks good to me as does black. I dont really like the others but of all the things to worry about I put this lower than last on the list.
  3. Yes thats right and if you quickly ask the player his name then he will give it to you so you can check.
  4. Or an ameoba (sp?) -- changing on every pitch
  5. That's during the "transition phase" or whatever its called - its been a long time since HS chemistry. Now once they are frozen thay can get colder. So those from the freezer are at about 0*F and those in the fridge are about 40*F
  6. oh - HS rules. I thought we were on pro rules. The interp and usage is probably the same even if the literal reading isnt.
  7. Actually Im not sure they do say that (in the rules and not in some interp). They do say come set. And they say any motion associated with the pitch commits him to pitch and they say a feint to first is a balk. But if someone were to argue that it wasnt one of those two things then they'd have some sort of argument just based on the rules. (At least I hope I'm remembering this correctly - it was one of the first weird rules I seem to recall learning). And it is true that in the bigs that there does seem to be a double set that seems to be allowed because all the participants know what is going on. Not that this means this is how we should do it at the less-than-bigs level.
  8. The umpire is always supposed to record CRs and visits etc in HS games and Id think that he'd want to knw this in other games that use a CR or an SPR (or whatever LL calls it). But the posat was asking about statistics etc and not what the umpire does. And I agree that even the base umpire should be carrying a piece of paper and a pen to write down whatever needs to be written down (even if most of the time you wont use it).
  9. Take one step forward and then read the catcher's shoulders to see where hes throwing and then step either toward the third base line about half way to home or drop step toward second. He could still change his mind so dont turn until the ball is in the air.
  10. Variations on that play have been discussed here and at umpire meetings for a long time. Most will find some way to eject the coach and maybe the runners. HS has some interp (similar to your play but where the runners switch positions) that gets two outs and an ejection.
  11. Agreed and as long as he went to first on the throw then popping the leg out is nothing (and it also might not be anything if he had stepped and thrown to the plate but I'd need to take another look.) Just another example of why funny is not a balk.
  12. Put your mouse on his toe when he's set and then see where the heel comes down -- its closer to first then where the toe was so its a legal move (or at least close enough to not call in MLB)
  13. I didnt need to go to pro school to learn this and I think that most will agree with what you said
  14. The ruling depends on the rules being used and whether the ball "passed through or immediately by F3 and hit R1 standing immediately behind him" (or some wording like that from OBR). So, not enough information in the play to tell, so everyone who posted is right and gets a gold star and a participation trophy, just like most youth baseball today. Hoorah.
  15. You might be. At least at some level above about 10 or 12, just wait until both the offense and defense by there actions indicate they are ready.
  16. If your going to learn proper mechanics you have lots of people to watch other than bob davidson or for that matter almost any more experienced mlb umpire.
  17. It's not who is closest at the time of the contact, but who is most likely to field the ball. Given that F1 was able to field it and make a play on R2 going to third, the ball must of been pretty far out so that even without contact F1 would of fielded it and made the play. You are correct that if F2 was the most likely to field the ball with no contact and if the contact was not from behind then this is either interference or nothing.
  18. If it's at all unclear that the pitch wasnt caught then give both a verbal and a signal that the pitch wasnt' caught. Most just use the safe sign.
  19. NCAA makes a distinction between going through or over an outfield fence (6-1.d(3)) and other dbt (6-1.d(1), (2) and 6-1.e)
  20. Getting together when the ball is on the ground is proper but I dont know why the offensive coach would object since the cahnged call went in his favour. And waiting 5 minutes is about 4.5 minutes too long to eject the coach.
  21. You should be 100% positive its fake -- just an ad for some sports drink or another iirc
  22. It is if your using FED mechanics or if your association has it as there mechanics. Its not the mechanic under NCAA or most obr-based groups.
  23. No, that's not true. But only because the illegal sub was at bat with only 2 runners on base. lol. Plays made by an illegal sub stand under OBR. The original player is out of the game (that is, the substitution affects him) and the illegal sub is removed, so another player must now enter. (And that legal player can be the original player if the league / tournament has reentry -- which isnt covered of course in pure obr). No player, no game.
  24. Well, I think that's correct if he enters the stands or a spectator area but it s not clear in the post how the aea was defined. Most places seem to allow a throw.
  25. True if hes still avoiding a tag (and I dont remember the video to know or not). Its clearly not passing.
