Imagine if he was throwing 100mph!

I couldn't agree more It's the parents creating the drama. I feel for the kids that only do travel given all the (net) good things about LL (imo). Doing both at the same time is about the parents ego* for the parents and a great way to get an 11 yr old Tommy John surgery. * They can say it's about college scholarships but it's not reality. The economics simply aren't there.

A very high percentage, if not 99.99%, play travel - during LL off-season at least (how they step off the rubber is a tell). Your neighbors arrangement makes me sad.

I totally follow now. The rules explicitly differentiate between [A] what I called ‘rapid delivery’ before but found has a proper name (I knew it was somewhere): A QUICK RETURN is a pitch made with obvious intent to catch a batter off balance. It is an illegal pitch. (See Penalty – 8.05) Which doesn’t (appear to) differentiate between men on base or not because it is explicitly about protecting the Batter AND, [B] the pitching delivery from OP which, by rule, only applies when runners are on base. We enforce the rules as written, so I’m with you. [clink] Now (haughty, lecture voice), since both ‘quick’ and ‘slow’ can be used to deceive the batter, the argument could be made that they should apply without runners on base. What’s the phone number for the Williamsport Rules Committee? I’ll let them know I found this logical inconsistency.

Which half of the ball was he tagged with?
-
[friendly tone as if over a beverage - i'm buying ] This is Majors with no leaving the base until the ball reaches the batter... so Mike, why differentiate with or with out runners on base? The batter is the only one potentially hurt by the shimmy shimmy shake, no?

Personally, I don't call it illegal pitch but do understand those who do. The quick pitch (which I didn't see Todd do) is across the line for me. It is judgmental (vs slide step for example - call it a 'rapid delivery from a relaxed state' if you like) is an unsportsmanlike action imo and I call illegal pitch in LL Major/Minor.

Watching the game live this instantly caught my attention as well. Going forward it's going to be a tough argument between the rules @Senor Azul so graciously referenced and whatever everyone just saw at the highest level of the organization. LL umpires can deflect arguments citing Johnny Cueto (I'm in the SF Bay Area), Stroman, etc. Feels like it's tougher to deflect arguments citing this without throwing the guys on tv under the bus. Those are my initial thoughts. Hey, @RichMSN you see this game? Would love to hear your thoughts given your experience.

If I only I could get my pitching wedge to consistently do that

This, and so much of the thread, made me think of this that I watched last night

@wolfe_man I've learned (and continue to relearn) that brief isn't only legally better it removes ambiguity. Counterintuitive I know. It's also harder (at least it is for me). This youtube has been helpful (the book is even better imo).

So many things going. Hey, what's on the grassy knoll at 5:16 of the video?

Missed 3rd base on a HR CT VS NH Regional Final

This conference call is really boring so adding some info for you Here was U3's look at the touch See this other picture with shows the defense dugouts location. -
There's a lot of that going around these days. Well, that's ominous. Is @Rich Ives Brad Pitt's cousin or something?

Missed 3rd base on a HR CT VS NH Regional Final
Velho replied to ArchAngel72's topic in Youth Recreation Ball
Turns out I can. Looks like you need to log in with your cable provider. The HR in question is around 1 hour mark (it's the solo HR not the 3 run HR of back to back HRs). Manchester, CT vs. Hooksett, NH (New England Regional Final) View Now -
Missed 3rd base on a HR CT VS NH Regional Final
Velho replied to ArchAngel72's topic in Youth Recreation Ball
ESPN app has the full game (i.e. not edited). @ArchAngel72 you're correct, it is PU who signals him out on the appeal. It then goes to replay and is upheld. They only show one replay angle and it's inconclusive. If he touched the bag it was with his left instep. In the replay you can see a BU closely watching the touch. Since they knew it was going to be appealed (5+ minute delay between HR and appeal) maybe the crew conferenced, BU told PU it was a missed bag, and they had PU give the signal? -

It's #3 as @noumphere stated. I say this looking specifically at todays game, bottom of the 4th, no outs, Kepler on base. Sherrif starts in the stretch, comes upright sideways with various movements including rocking his feet before coming set.

Given your original statement "The ball is clearly over the line, but the third baseman catches it BEFORE it touches the ground in foul territory and before it reaches third base." Assuming "The ball is clearly over the line" means it was over foul territory, this is a foul ball. The below video may help put it all together (vs just text). Jump to 3:28 for your situation (though not hitting ground first but that doesn't matter).

I imagine you're talking in a general sense @SH0102 but in this specific case it's 9th inning 2 outs & down 6-0. There is zero consequence to Harper for getting tossed (unlike HS where you miss the next game, at least in my local). If anything it gets his EJ stats up and maybe some future glorification from MLB itself. https://www.mlb.com/cut4/happy-anniversary-to-bobby-coxs-record-setting-132nd-ejection/c-142984996 https://www.mlb.com/cut4/weirdest-ejections-in-mlb-history-c248566994 https://www.mlb.com/cut4/the-best-ejections-of-bobby-cox-s-career-c290141334 https://www.mlb.com/cut4/relive-these-6-epic-manager-ejections-c260965836
