  1. I've always been instructed to go out towards 2B or SS, not all the way to the outfield though, just back along the base-path lines. The idea was to get mostly out of earshot in case the coach wants to vent to his players (don't go picking boogers). And for the most part, I don't even look that way. I'll keep a watch out of the side of my eyes to see if he's changing pitchers or not. If he's not changing, then I'm just watching for the PU to begin his walk and I'll start back also towards my B or C position that I was in. If he is changing pitchers, then I come back sooner to count pitches while the PU is making the update to his lineup card. Then, I can let him know how many are left to go once he's done. If done properly, it keeps the game moving right along.
  2. Yes, sir I would. Direct from All-Star they are $45 + $9.99 shipping, not to mention taxes. I'd sell pads by themselves for $45 shipped.
  3. There is nothing wrong with them. They aren't any better than the newer masks though. They are lightweight (hollow steel version vs. old solid steel) and the I-bar's offer you a good view. The double-wire design makes the mask stronger than a single bar design (for hollow steel again). For view comparison, the MAG also utilizes the I-bar design. Just the "blades" on the MAG are a bit wider than a regular mask (FM4K, FM2K or FM25 shown above). The I-bar is designed to give you less horizontal obstruction so you can see more of what's happening in front of you (the strike zone). For feel, the MAG is so wicked light that I'm not sure anything can offer a similar feel - except for a titanium or possibly a super lightweight hollow steel mask. With that said, if you have the MAG then you have arguably the lightest, strongest, best-looking <my opinion> and most well-designed traditional mask on the market. The F3 is in another category, but for traditional masks (read non-springs) there simply isn't a better mask out there than the MAG in my humble opinion. Oh, and one last thing, the MLB guys wearing these I'm guessing are the old-school guys like Cuzzi and Culbreth. Sometimes guys just like wearing what's familiar. Like an old pair of shoes or jeans that no longer look so great, we tend to keep wearing them because they're comfortable to us. Many times, umpires are the same way. We tend to stick with what we know or see the MLB guys wear... when we should do what they do and wear what we love and have proved worthy.
  4. That meeting went WAY too long in the movie. The PU must have fallen asleep.
  5. I think he's done. I tried an order a couple months back on a mask and visor... nothing. No response to email, live chat, phone call - and no product shipped. PayPal refunded me. I'm done trying with +POS.
  6. I don't think you are able to compare anything today to a Carlucci or Power. They're in a league by themselves. The Power and Douglas do not resemble each other very much at all. The Power is very similar to a Gold in appearance, but the fit and comfort is so much better.
  7. They fit in most traditional masks, yes. I've had them in a Nike/Adidas and we know @MadMaxwears them on his steel FM4K.
  8. All Star umpire black traditional harness is included... can do either set of pads or both if you’re interested.
  9. I’ll do frame only or with both sets of pads if you wish. I’d like to move it quickly though if possible. Thanks!
  10. @kylejtI believe has comments on FB and has both CP's. I'll tag him and maybe he'll care to share here as well.
  11. Brand new black All Star MAG and pads... $225 shipped con-USA.
  12. Ouch! Sorry amigo! Were like 8 from the bottom. Middle/Freshman $40 JV $42 Varsity $57 Summer ball is $40-50
  13. @Thunderheadslock it up please. Thanks again @umpstu.
  14. It is recency bias, but not the psychological case I had in mind.
  15. I don't - nor will I talk about this man, but in my head that'll be the first thing I think of when I hear his name or see him for a long time most likely. I forget the phenomenon, but its psychological for most of us to now associate him with this, unless we knew him or something odd about him that stands out even greater than this in our mind. And I wonder what is the most prevalent topic in the majority of men's minds?
  16. I hate Arbiter Pay. Most schools up here use it, but it's a pain in the neck. Yes, we get scrimmage fees, but need it because we're some of the lowest paid umpires in the country.
  17. No offense, but I'll keep my scrimmage fees and just pay dues thank you. A scrimmage fee just about covers yearly dues. Two Varsity scrimmages at $57 more than covers the full $65 owed to the State and the $15 to local umpire association fees. In OH, we've been getting full game fees for doing scrimmages - and rightly so in my opinion, many times scrimmages are longer than games and we see a lot more pitching changes, innings, etc.
  18. Does anyone have the rule for this? If we all speculate or give an opinion without a rule citation, then we don't learn anything here. I believe A is the accurate answer, but I'd like confirmation so I can learn if I am wrong. @Senor Azul any idea on this one, my friend? Thanks!
  19. https://www.10tv.com/article/news/crime/14-men-arrested-in-human-trafficking-sting-in-northeast-ohio/530-c19bdafd-4d38-4db3-b499-9487c6fd9599 It appears to be true. This site has pics of the 14 men and it looks like Mr. O'Nora. He's being charged with soliciting a prostitute, not human trafficking though. I agree it's dumb, but I hate seeing lives destroyed over bad decisions.
  20. I'd recommend Venmo. PayPal is good, but they take 3% of your transactions unless you do the Friends and Family option, which a lot of guys conveniently forget to do. I'm sure there are other methods that might work as well. CashApp for example. Personally, I use Venmo as much as I can now.
  21. I am selling a brand new, unworn (only tried on) All Star Cobalt CP. Asking $165 shipped within the con-USA. I'm selling because I don't like the fit on me. I'll probably stay with my Gold. I realize it's not a huge discount from other retailers, but you're saving $14.95 up front plus taxes ($13.49 in Ohio) - so almost a $30 savings overall.
  22. Mr Tyler, walk this way... Yes, having control of the ball is key and it will be in the umpire's judgment as to if he has control or not. The rule below specifically mentions the ball may be touching the ground in his glove. If the ball can touch a glove and the ground and it is okay, then the hand and ground is okay as well. Again, the key is that the fielder has control of the ball and is not just simply trapping the ball against the ground. NFHS Rule 2-9-1 2-9-1 A catch is the act of a fielder in getting secure possession in his hand or glove of a live ball in flight and firmly holding it, provided he does not use his cap, protector, mask, pocket or other part of his uniform to trap the ball. The catch of a fly ball by a fielder is not completed until the continuing action of the catch is completed. A fielder who catches a ball and then runs into a wall or another player and drops the ball has not made a catch. A fielder, at full speed, who catches a ball and whose initial momentum carries him several more yards after which the ball drops from his glove has not made a catch. When the fielder, by his action of stopping, removing the ball from his glove, etc., signifies the initial action is completed and then drops the ball, will be judged to have made the catch. The same definition of a catch would apply when making a double play. It is considered a catch if a fielder catches a fair or foul ball and then steps or falls into a bench, dugout, stand, bleacher or over any boundary or barrier, such as a fence, rope, chalk line, or a pregame determined imaginary boundary line from the field of play. Falling into does not include merely running against such object. (See 2-24-4 for fielder juggling ball and 8-4-1c for intentionally dropped ball; 2-16-2 and 5-1-1d for ball striking catcher before touching his glove.) It is not a catch when a fielder touches a batted ball in flight which then contacts a member of the offensive team or an umpire and is then caught by a defensive player. NOTE: When a batted ball or a pitch is involved, the above definition of a catch applies. For any other thrown ball, the term is used loosely to also apply to a pick-up or to the trapping of a low throw which has touched the ground. A fielder may have the ball in his grasp even though it is touching the ground while in his glove.
  23. Yeah, good luck with Cali. You guys got it rough right now in So-Cal. I'd love to come visit, but can't live there. I wish you the best of luck!
