  1. Yeah I had to do same, canceled my order just in time to save a little more.
  2. You will not find many actual Little League affiliated leagues in the country that pay for umpires. It is not a written rule of the charter, but they add cliff notes and frown on it. It is up to the UIC to keep a good pool of guys. With that being said, my current position on our LL board is equipment manger. We used communal gear that ranged from the pillow to some moldy CP that was petrified in the shape of a W. I now have a bag sitting in the board room with a new Diamond iX3 set, five Smitty shirts of varying size and color, Smitty adjustable waist pants, plate shoes if they fit, hat, belt, ball bags, brush, clicker, etc. etc. It took me some time as I did not just go buy this stuff retail. The shirts for example I paid $25 for. This will be our communal gear bag for the upcoming season. You use it, you wash it please. I am working on another bag as we speak in the event a new umpire comes along this season and needs gear, we can give him the communal bag at a good price and rotate them through. Our board will actually buy a proper uniform and work with a new umpire to not only get them in some protective gear, but also look the part before they ever step on the field. The catch is making sure they are not a one hit wonder. Can't be giving away gear for one season of work. We just held our district All-Star tournament and everyone noticed how one of the local leagues looked like they pulled a homeless guy off the street and put them in a CP and shinnies that are for a 12 year old. Every LL is going to be different. Instead of my business sponsoring a season and that money going to the general fund, I use that money and buy things myself and put them to use. Not that the league wouldn't buy them, but it allows me better control of getting what I know we need. Like proper communal gear, gear lots, and so on.Our UIC past and present though set a little higher bar then the standard, "Hey Dad, come hold this pillow and ump our game". We luck out here though and have 3-4 older guys that have helped the league our for years so we don't have to pull from the stands that often.
  3. They dropped them another $10 FYI. Therma now $49 Cool now $35
  4. That time of year almost. They have the cool base and therma base on sale right now. Limited sizes in the black. About a buy one get one offer if you are the right size. http://www.baseballexpress.com/catalog/product.jsp?productId=37618
  5. I am going with the mask cp all in one package http://www.ebay.com/itm/Black-Beige-Padded-Catcher-Umpires-Face-Mask-w-Throat-Protector-/271541288420?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3f391f3de4
  6. I am getting some from Ump attire the ones I asked about were only being considered because they were cheaper than shipping on my order but if I did get them as footwear the shipping would have been free other wise I found a pair on ump attire im in love with I wear a size 12 in everything else on the planet except the Reebook Zigs. Had to return them for a half size bigger. I read the same thing on multiple reviews of both the plate and the base. Just an fyi
  7. @Thunderheads I searched a few times and couldn't find an introduction of myself so I thought I better start a new thread. First off my wife would like to punch all of you in the nutty buddy for how much money I have spent on gear to ump my local Little League. Like most of my hobbies I go all out and spend too much money and she just doesn't understand why I bought three different masks already. This introduction is actually long overdue, I have been visiting the site for a little over a year now reading old posts, learning a lot of new things, re-buying gear I already had to be the cool kid. Everyone likes pictures so let me show you a little of my madness (keep in mind I see about a 60 MPH fastball tops). Big thanks to Ump-Attire.com, I bought some gear last year from another site and took forever to get the shipment. Made a big order last Monday, got it on Wednesday A+ Mask (Summer) - Diamond Big League - All Star visor - Tan Team Wendy - Cap flag patch (Straight stole from Mask Porn) CP - West Vest Gold - Delta Flex Harness Shin - West Vest Pro - toe plate removed Hat - Official Warren Workman Crease - LL Edition Pants - Honig's Polo Wool Plate and Smitty Combo Shirts - Honig's Pro Style Shoes - Reebok Low Plate B/W / NB 950 Base Under Apparel - Under Armor Heat Gear - Compression pants and shirt Nutty Buddy Sunglasses - Easton Diamond About to send that CP off to Team Wendy and use my iX3 for a month, why... well why not! 8. Can't resist a first post, been reading and learning for months. ^^ SJA post is almost universal now at our level. The local Little League will have a set rule with it's local municipality and their insurance provider. We have a lightning detector at our fields and when it goes off the umpires are told to immediately suspend game and send players and parents to cars, everyone will run under cover or stand by concessions if the umpire does not make it clear to leave the fields entirely. Living in Florida this happens a lot. I will make a it very clear the second the siren goes off that they need to go to their cars for 30 minutes and I will come out the parking lot when they are allowed to return or calling the game. Not a rule but I will also not allow the players to gather their equipment even. If I see it building I will inform the coaches ahead of time that in the event of lightning I need the field cleared in less then a minute gear or no gear.
