Working softball in a couple hours. Any tips?

Scheduling for my first week as UIC... Should first time umpires (never worked a game in their life) have their first game on the plate or in the field? Thoughts?
-
I agree with Matt. Put them on the plate. Sure there is more to do on the plate, but calls on the bases are more important. Also having a more experienced umpire on the bases allows them to watch the rookie and correct issues midgame (read as between innings).
Also, it is more important that new umpires become perficient at balls and strikes. It is where our bread is buttered.

Is this the correct call? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EjUxi685No4&list=PLX3ktjfCGTqZWpA7IU1MOvd5YzmU_H3oA

Had to show up and direct a mock up I was only supposed to be helping with...thankfully a more experienced back up showed up.

0-0 Count on the Batter, 0 outs, Runner on First. Pitch comes in to the batter, runner on first is stealing, Batters swings at the pitch and his momentum comes across the plate and hinders the catcher from throwing the runner out at 2nd. What is the call? High School you send the Runner Back and the Batter is out. What is the ruling when playing under MLB Rules? Need to know this ASAP. I get confused been trying to read it in the book but cant find a answer that explains it well to me.

I have been assigned to my first High School Baseball Game that will be played next week. I will be working with Independent League/College Umpire Kurt Branin and my fellow Little League/Travel Ball and now High School Umpire Jim White who happens to be a World Series Umpire. Great Crew for my first High School game. I'm Blessed and Grateful. :)

Does Honigs go to anybody else's association meetings? I just found out they're coming to mine and I was wondering what the typical discount on prices was for the meetings.
-
Slo is correct. They come if they are near by. Hoping they come to the college meeting on the 1st/2nd of Feb here in Oregon, but I am not holding my breath (they are less then 20 minutes away from the site). They do, however, come to one of our football meetings every year.
As for a discount, good luck with that! Only discount you get is if you are a member of NASO or ABUA or if your association has worked out a deal with them.
