1. Late and close MSBL game. R2, R3, 1 out. I'm on the plate. Infield is in. Right-handed batter hits a hard ground ball right down the 1st base line. I clear the catcher to the left trying to get on the line for the fair foul call. F3 fields the ball right over the line. I point it fair as the throw is on it's way to F3 and I get blown up by R3. R3 is lying on the ground 5 feet from the plate as F2 walks over and tags him for the out. I could have backed up to 1BLX and tried to see through the BR and F2. I could have moved to 3BLX and set up for the play at the plate while living with a bad angle on the fair foul call. I just hustled myself into a bad and dangerous spot. The runner was going on contact and was watching the play by F3. He said he didn't see me until we collided. Sent from my SM-G935T using Tapatalk
2. I don't agree that this was a bad miss or that it was right smack in the middle of the zone. The hitters stepping out which adds to the difficulty and F2 is reaching down and to his backhand to receive it. Where that pitch was received does not seem to match up with where the pitchcast had it. Sent from my SM-G935T using Tapatalk
3. Thanks Jim, I hope I do prioritize communication in every situation. I am not arguing against this change in SOP but rather asking for training resources. It's definitely a situation where I have experienced different perceptions from my partners. Now if you guys can help me when my BU in A turns, takes three steps out to right field then tried to come in and take a pivot, or rim to take the BR to 2nd base. All without saying a word [emoji3] Sent from my SM-G935T using Tapatalk
4. Evans still teaches the V as the area of responsibility for the BU in the two man system. Maximizing The Two Man System shows it that way. The change seem useful to me and I may have had partners propose it but I'd like to know where I can learn more about it. Sent from my SM-G935T using Tapatalk
5. To be clear, I've been trained with defined areas of responsibility AND communication. Is what is being recommend here, BU has everything unless called off by PU for a difficult fair foul decision? Sent from my SM-G935T using Tapatalk
6. I've been taught to use the "V" and PU communicates on all flyballs he is taking. "I'm on the line" or "I've got the ball". Is there a manual teaching this BU gets everything PU doesn't call approach? Sent from my SM-G935T using Tapatalk
7. With all due respect, he was no Fisk. Sent from my SM-G935T using Tapatalk

Apparently most of my partners have seeds when I'm on the plate. When we switch positions B and C are littered with shells[emoji2] Sent from my SM-G935T using Tapatalk
9. I had the opportunity to haveMadMax work on my Force3 HSM. I also used and still alternate the Shock 2.0. I don't have any problem with the ridge as you describe it. However, I did have a problem with the strap that attaches the back plate spinning and tightening too much. Max was able to fix that along with loosening the pressure from that monsterous jaw pad. The more I wear it the less it it presses against my face. I believe he just used something like you'd use to break in a glove to pound out that chin pad. It's hot and heavy but if you use it regularly you get use to it and seem to get great protection. Sent from my SM-G935T using Tapatalk
10. I have a pair of these shoes, just without the Nike logo. I believe my pair are +POS. Mine are in slightly better shape. Someone gave them to me to pass along to someone that can use them. Sent from my SM-G935T using Tapatalk
11. I might get that second pitch. Most likely in the men's league game I'd have pulled my helmet off and chewed that hitter's a$$ all the way back to the dugout. If he stopped or argued with me he would have gone. The kid's out of the game one way or another. Most likely at that age a word with the coach regarding available subs and giving him the option to remove the kid. However, even I couldn't sell a strike on that pitch. 12. Guys, I've worn and own all three if the HSM mentioned in this string. All of them are hot, all of them are heavy, but once you get used to it you stop noticing. Unlike my buddyMadMax, I am unwilling to take the extra risk. With bats flying around, balls coming in from other fields, balls bouncing off short backstops, some of the pitcher/catcher mismatches along with the number of games I work I just feel safer with a helmet on. We can debate if any HSM protects better on balls that hit you from the front but there is no debate about them protecting you better from a bat in the side of the head like Segal get hit with. 13. I have the 2015 solid black Majestic. Great shirt, super material, extra long tail. The only problem is no one else has it[emoji54] Sent from my SM-G935T using Tapatalk
14. @MadMax, many of us a waiting to hear what you have to say about the state of catchers' gear. I know how you feel about the one piece helmets. As a user of HSMs with shock absorbers I've invested with the idea that it is in fact safer. And I do feel that throat guards should be mandatory after a HS kid almost choked to death in a game I did a few years ago. However, I don't think it's worth personalizing your response to this topic. Sent from my SM-G935T using Tapatalk
15. Shoot me a text when you get here. @MadMax and I would like to welcome you to the Valley. Sent from my SM-G935T using Tapatalk
16. Back to reality, over the past 5 years I've done at minimum 5X the number of plate jobs as any MLB umpire. However the forces involved are just not the same. Doing youth ball, HS, men's league and the occasional college summer ball I get hit more frequently but with pitches that are traveling much slower. I know I am just between injuries at any time. Just no way of knowing what the cumulative effect will be. Sent from my SM-G935T using Tapatalk
17. The Majestic shirts are about $10 more but we'll worth the difference. I like this look and more of my partners are moving to it from the older MLB shirts with the one white stripe. The Majestic material breaths much better and as noted the collars hold their shape much better. Sent from my SM-G935T using Tapatalk
18. In OBR checked swings are not only appealable but an appeal is mandatory if requested. If the F2 or coach say check, you check. Not sure how I would handle it if I was BU but I'm pretty sure my partner and I would have a conversation about it prior to getting a protest filed against us. Sent from my SM-G935T using Tapatalk
19. My challenge with the silk-screened shirts we have now is that the collars have no body to them and they look lousy after you've washed them a few times. I have purchased multiple shirts every year since we went to them. Working just about every day during the HS season I need them. I prefer to spend more if I have to in order to get better quality. However, to pay top dollar for a shirt that doesn't hold up is irksome. I guess if that's all I have to complain about I'm in good shape. Sent from my SM-G935T using Tapatalk
20. Thanks for posting this, it makes me laugh every time l hear it. You know I think we shouldn't provoke the monkeys on the other side of the fence. I think I'd have ejected the Gold HC prior to confronting the fan because I'm not sure of my authority when it extends to fans. Regarding your situation, most of the time when you are as confident as I know you were with your ruling and can explain it clearly and consistently, the good baseball guys we have for coaches here are going to figure you're right. The fans? Not so much, they can let how they want things to be interfere with rational thought. Sent from my SM-G935T using Tapatalk
21. Had my first plate last night with these poly spandex pants. They did hang up in my Force3 shins on occasion however the legs were plenty wide enough to pull up over my plate shoes and shins getting them on. The most important thing was how much cooler I felt. It was 109 at game time and our humdity is starting to get up a little bit. The combination of these pants over Nike Pro Combat Hyper Cool tights kept my legs the coolest part of my body. I could feel sweat everywhere except where I just had the tights and pants. I currently have about eight pairs of pants for plate and bases. I'll be moving to these going forward. Even if you don't work in such extreme conditions I think you'll appreciate these pants. Now we have to see how they handle laundering. Any one have suggestions for washing them? 22. Only, 384 games in the past year? Not bad considering you spent the first three months whining about how no one was ever going to assign you[emoji2] We're lucky to have you here and it's been great to add such a good umpire and friend to our community. Just learn to stay on your side of the fence! Sent from my SM-G935T using Tapatalk
23. The only question or issue here is if F1 requested time prior to flipping the ball in the dugout. It looks like he turned to U3 just before the throw and U1 came out to check with U3 before making the call. The award is simple, two bases, TOT. The runners could have been directed right away and by all members of the crew. Since the BR has already been awarded 1st does it matter if he and the other runners have reached the next base for the purpose of the awards? Sent from my SM-G935T using Tapatalk

Batters box

It can pass over the plate and be on the line before it gets beyond the plate. You have to consider the whole path of the pitch from the time it enters the plate area to when it exits. It's not a single point in time or a location. If someone where to ask me where a pitch was I'd have to describe it something like this; "it was running arm side, caught the inside corner at the knees and finished down and in". I is simplistic to say it's on the corner or on the batter's box line. Sent from my SM-G935T using Tapatalk
