I tried to dye them, but it didn't work. Ray did advise me to spray them with an outdoor sunshield. Using Scotchguard and hoping the desert doesn't tear them up too bad.

Interesting. I guess something like this may work?

The second way is the only way this is INT. Normal base running in front of a fielder is not INT.

Not only did the ball hit the runner’s leg, he clearly hinders f6 from a clean opportunity field the ball as he is running back to the bag . Big difference between this play and a runner running in front of fielder when a fielder is not charging the ground ball. I’m just wondering the thought process that leads to a non call here.

Are there seams on your arm...that's always a fun conversation topic too.  I can't wait to see that wonderful shade of yellow that follows the purple.

I don’t want to hijack  the thread anymore than we have already. But yeah  there’s some cool red stitches on my forearm. No NCAA logo though. 🤣

I always find it interesting how different areas are different. Every varsity FED game I've ever been to has been a chirp-fest

I don’t work the little kids anymore, but I don’t find FED games too bad in general. The worst?  16-18 travel tournament parents. They want the MLB zone for their hitters, and an 8u zone for their pitchers.

And strikes the vein directly over the bone in the top of your forearm. MAN, THAT FU$%^&G HURTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You mean something like this???IMG_1800.jpeg.448e856ef3038974dcacb7396cf7998c.jpeg. From today.  It wasn’t a spiked 0-2 pitch… it was completely missed inside fastball. I told f2 “you gotta catch it before you can frame it🙄

My least favorite instantiation of this is LL All-Stars, and ace pitchers messing around with the #8-10 hitters.  Save that curve, and those pitches, to upset the timing of the top five hitters who can take you deep!  This kid has just shown he can't catch your heat.  [Mortal Kombat Voice]Finish him![/Mortal Kombat Voice]

    Or…  0-2 , two outs, followed by 5 pick off throws to 1b. 😤

We don't do TV ads so 120 is way too much for nfhs baseball.

A full four minutes added on to each inning is 28 minutes. That would be enough for me to hang it up.

That's fuzzy math. You're already using 2:40 per inning.  making it 120 seconds is only adding 80 seconds per inning. That's less than 10 minutes added.

And 120 means Batter in the box and pitcher ready to throw at 120. If you're getting that done in 80 seconds with  HS kids, congratulations.

  8. You’re right. But my high school experience is this is the one balk rule coaches are aware of. They jump on the “going to mouth on the rubber balk” like no one’s business.

Was this not a 3-man crew?

It was a 3 man crew. I have zero idea on basketball mechanics. I would guess the guy in the backcourt makes this call. It seems logical he’s the guy who could line up the players and the clock. Watching the video, it doesn’t look like that guy motions anything at all. When they get together the ref who was on the far side line seems to be the most animated and talkative during their huddle.

    Mafia?
Ain’t Jimmy Hoffa buried under The Meadowlands?

I have no speculation on this. Mafia? Hoffa?  I don’t  comment on such things. My body’s allergic to ice picks.

  10. We’ll never know. Only those three refs and the NJSIAA rep know exactly how this went down. I’m not sure why an NJSIAA rep was even on the floor, but that’s another issue.
I take any “reporting” of this event with less than a grain of salt. It’s all hearsay.

That caseplay was a revision to a past one that had adjusting the hat a the start of a pitch and a balk, circa 2007 - 2010 approx.

    correct. 2010 rule interps.

I vaguely remember the hat conversation . . . can somebody point me in the right direction for that?

I remember talking about it multiple times. Here’s the ruling.
    6.1.2D casebook

F1, while on the pitcher’s plate in either the windup or set position, (a) adjusts his cap, or (b) shakes off the signal with his glove, or (c) shakes off the signal with his head. RULING: In (a), (b) and (c) these are legal actions, provided these movements of the arms and legs were not associated with the pitch. (6-1-1,)

4 minutes and 22 seconds and the only thing those guys said that was correct or was "Good luck arguing with Greg Gibson"

Because what I am seeing here is the basketball equivalent of a whacker at the plate to decide a state semi-final, PU nailing the call...and then here comes U2 from the vicinity of 2B to just stomp all over the call and overrule the PU.

That’s the optics on every video and everything I’ve read.

It seems to be “a thing” here in NJ. A few years back in a baseball state game, u1 made a wacker call at first…. No pulled foot, no swipe tags…. Just a banger. Consulted with  the crew and changed his call.

If you are willing to take this crap to court and waste taxpayer money over a game, then you had damned well be willing to voluntarily give up your victory if you are ever on the other side of a situation like this.  So ask yourself, local Board of Education and Superintendent, are you going to do what you say others should

I just wanted to add this. Today the Manasquan kids went above and beyond showing  class and sportsmanship regardless of what the adults tried to accomplish in courts or otherwise.
Camden won the finals today. The Manasquan kids were in attendance.

I guess for me, I'm glad that this is something that we don't really see in our part of the country.

We tend to have a lot of hand lickers around here. Preventive umpiring for me. A lick off the rubber and straight to the ball gets a time call and a new ball before he gets to the rubber. When it happens on the rubber no choice but to call it by the book.

Yet going to the hat can be judged not a pitching motion. But I think FED is going to die on that hill, given the interps, caseplays, and actual POE one year in the book.

    THIS is the inconsistency.

Ha!  I was well above toddler age. I was 12. Yeah, it sucked. We got hosed. And I learned another life lesson. Life ain’t always fair. Like I said. Different world today. For many reasons. Technology and  making everything perfect… and fair…. and equal… even in sports , is in….. and sometimes  you get dealt a crappy hand and you need to make the best of a bad situation — or dealing with it and moving on ….is out.

yep. I’m an old grumpy man.

    That was because of us.

Our RI brought our 2023 results to the Fed board… who got all up in arms about how we didn’t do 60 seconds as codified, but instead 90 seconds. We defended it as 60 being wholly inadequate (and it is), and that college and pro ball is 120 seconds.

    …

    …

In classic committee fashion, they set it to 80 seconds.

That works for me if you’re gonna say “last warmup and throw it down at 80. If you’re looking for pitcher on the rubber, batter alert and in the box at 80 that’s a bit much IMO.

I would not be in favor of more trips. How the rule reads now is plenty.

It would be curbing catchers jumping out to the mound 12-15 times a game. It’s rampant here. This would limit non coach visits.
