  1. Bing! True! Ten points Griffyndor! No need. They're not going to know anyway... the only people that will know are on this here forum. Yup, it's Rawlings' rendition of a "floating chin". I've only seen an Asian-market-only Mizuno HSM have a floating chin, also. Why they're not used more confuses me, but I _think_ I know why. The benefits of a floating chin, though, are thus: What is it that catchers are taught to do on a pitch down or one they are about to block in the dirt? Tuck their chin (down) against their chest. This Rawlings design allows that to happen with the

  2. I always used something like "males some movement NOT needed to complete the catch." So, running eight NOT NEEDED steps (i.e., the fielder could have stopped if he wanted to) or pumping his arms (because it was not needed to control the ball) means it was a catch. And, yes, it's judgment; and yes, that's not exactly what the rule says.

  3. Recently got an Unequal Uncap, as extra protection against foul ball ricochets off of our LL "cone" backstops. I spent a few training sessions wearing it and used it last night in a HS scrimmage. I have to say, it works pretty darn well for me. I even took a foul ball off the upper part of my mask and I felt very little - surprisingly little. Wearing it takes a little getting used to. It feels a little less stable up there (due to its weight I think), but works well with my flexfit hat. I've had no problems with it actually moving around on me. It made my fitted hats too small, so I'

  9. It's an example, not a requirement. I'm trying to get you to think of what the rule actually says. I also have had multiple issues as a CBUA member with their misinterpretations of these particular plays (I direct you to the video on 3/25/2019 which claims that voluntary release is needed on a tag, but that is not true. More importantly, it claims that the criteria for a catch and tag are the same, which is patently false.) Momentum is not a choice--it exists or it doesn't. By your description, this is likely a catch, as the momentum had ended. The fielder's continued running was not

  10. I have been known to correct umpires who insist that a foul ball is a dead ball. This is why; and some will argue with me, even though they admit that runners can tag and advance on a caught foul fly! The "uncorrectable foul call" applies only after the ball touches the ground, and calling that foul will make it a dead ball. Ordinarily the action, not our call, makes the ball dead. (It's similar to football, where the only whistle that makes the ball dead is the dreaded inadvertent whistle, blown by mistake.)

  11. After thinking about it, it dawned on me, we actually do sometimes just point foul without a verbal. In the case of a caught foul fly ball, we signal foul without a verbal as the ball is still live. Now this brings up another issue. In the case of a caught foul fly, even though an umpire points foul without a verbal, the ball is not dead. So, is a point without a verbal automatically a dead ball? In the case of a caught foul fly, it clearly isn't.

  13. Please, put a side by side picture of the SSK. The thing is that this one will get delivered not like Samurai Gears that will take ages to get what you paid for ship and delivered. Still haven't received my order from So of Samurai Gears for those of you that praised the guy. Sent from my SM-G960U using Tapatalk
