  1. Exactly what I was going to suggest

  2. Story of my (umpire-empire) life! You should never have to compromise the fit of gear. As Arik ( @BT_Blue) mentioned, the All-Star System 7 shinguards were made in shorter sizes, but they may not be available for retail purchase anymore since All-Star progressed to the Cobalt line. Would I wear them? Sure! The S7 shins are very good, certainly better fitting and lighter than any of the Wilson shins, but the Force3’s are just that much better, dollar for dollar. Huh! Funny! You found the West Vest to be... what’s that? “Bulky”?... too, huh? Hmmm... must be a characteristic of

  3. A Champion CP might be a very good fit for him. To me, they're nice for smaller-bodied umpires and still offer hard-shell protection. https://www.ump-attire.com/Products/P2/Champion-Body-Armor-Umpire-Chest-Protector

  4. You haven’t worked High School baseball east of the Mississippi River, have you? I worked with guys that owned one umpire shirt... only. You haven’t worked High School baseball east of the Mississippi River, have you? To quote one: “Navy’s all ya need!” How can you ever be putting on the “wrong color” if all we’ve got are [sic] navy??!! Besides! Navy or black hides the blood! Play on! I know, right??!! Fed’s got a rule for everything! Doesn’t matter if it makes logical sense or not, they got a rule for it! ... and be sure, @Sen

  5. “Wilson’s all ya need.” “Buy for the baseball you want to be doing.” “If the guys in the Bigs use it, it must be right.” Whew! Aren’t we glad that ya came here and talked with us, huh? I think my esteemed fellow gear-geek Wolfe’s got you on the best track for your son’s first few years of umpiring – either a Small Champion P2xx (in your case, it’d be a 13” P220), or a used Wilson Gold in Small (but even this might be a bit hefty). The advantages the Champion have over the Wilson are on width (narrower), bulk (lighter, less superfluous material), and cost (half the price t

  6. Tighten up your top strap. It is probably coming to far down the back of the helmet and taking it with the mask.

  7. I have the S7 shins and love them. My only improvement suggestion area, which does not looks like it was addressed in the new Cobalt shins, is I find the ankle protection is vulnerable. It does have a firm plastic insert, but not as protective as the Wilson flaps only slightly overlaps at the top of my mid NB plate shoes. However, they are low profile, light, and very easy to move around in. They breathe very well in hot temps and the pads come right out for easy washing. I'm only 5'11''. I bought a 17" pair and cut the top extension off. They fit like a glove with perfect placemen

  8. I love the CPU4000, but I've only had it, and the Schutt/Adams XV-HDX. The CPU4000 is heavier on a scale, but feels much lighter when wearing it. I didn't get a chance to wear it this year in any game above 85, but based on that game it seemed just slightly hotter than the Adams, and I think it's more protective. I liked it so much I bought a second one as back-up (wanted to get it before they are gone), and I doubt I'll use the Adams now at all. I was thinking about using the Adams for younger kids, but the CPU4000 is just more comfortable to me, even though it's overkill for some games t

  9. I really wanted to like the S7 cp. But I just couldn't do it. And by "do it" I meant stick my head through the opening.

  11. Yeah - Montana Mountain is another I know of.....Mountain Mountain...or Mountainous Mountain. Hell...it's there even if you just stick to English...especially acronyms...ATM machine...PIN number...SSN number...VIN number...DC Comics...outside of acronyms my personal fave is frozen tundra....or free gift.

  12. I think you have a typo there. Maybe 'phonographic memory'—but yeah, remembering sounds wouldn't help unless you had the rule book on audio.

  13. That will be the one time that right after donning that other, unacceptable colored shirt to complete the game that someone from the state or your association will walk up, not know what happened and ding you! Just Murphy's Law.

  14. You'll look even more ridiculous umpiring in a bloody shirt or no shirt at all. Switch to the other color shirt, Honestly, no one who knows the details will care

  15. Me too. The guy I'm thinking of had one shirt for his whole career (more than 20 years).

  16. That's what I did in my haste. Sorry, now I am confusing everyone. There is no V2 - it's a Cobalt. I have gone back and edited my post, but I can't correct everyone's quotations from my original post. I should have waited to post anything this morning, but started to post and then was distracted by other work and ended up making an inaccurate post.
