UIL State Tournament Batter interference

Recommended Posts

R1 off on the pitch. PU calls it dead upon calling batter interference.

Result: crew called R1 out.

Calling time when the throw sails way wide of 2B I can live with.

If this is strike 2, and they called R1 out for the batter's INT... ick.

Live with? Isn't it dead when the throw doesn't retire the runner?

Enforcement of penalty was wrong, but time was more or less correct, no?

From what I could see, he called the strike on the batter, and then saw the interference and immediately called time.  Didn't look like he pointed and called the interference - just called time as soon as the catcher was hindered.

That's what I saw: he was not reading the likelihood of the throw retiring the runner.

Video isn’t great, but he doesn’t call time right away. He signals a strike, and appears to call time as the throw gets somewhere out near the base (albeit wild). At that point he knows the throw isn’t retiring the runner. I don’t have an issue with the timing here after watching it a few times. He did not kill it right away.
