I am an umpire for a rec league that uses USSSA rules. there are situations that aren't covered in the book. what book should I then go by?

Well, remember which rule book in which to look.....while the USSSA rules as posted on their site may not cover the situation you're in, they state at the top of their page that for all items not addressed by their rules, to use the Official Baseball Rules as published by MLB. So that much more extensive rule book is the backstop for your league (unless further modified locally).

Was there a particular situation you had in mind as uncovered?
