  1. Rich, I do agree here, but playing devil's advocate .... alteration, maybe, but ...all this mumbo jumbo is happening during his 'move' to the plate. You'll see a lot of pitchers in their motion pop their glove with the ball in their hand (quite different, but similar?) Interruption, maybe, yes, but .... is Clayton Kershaw guilty, too? Again, just thinking out loud. Again, ... B would probably be the most logical, but ....
  2. I know an MLB umpire who does this when he's on TV ... says 'hi' to his mom w/ a certain gesture
  3. but .....this wasn't a "quick return pitch" ....
  4. Ahhh ....but can you do the Original West Vest by Douglas?
  5. That's what Douglas does too (the way Power does it)
  6. ....we can always count on Jim for a nice April Fools prank!!!!!!!!
  7. Tyler Anderson was the guy I was referring to. Is THIS what you mean @Sean
  8. Based on what you've said here, ... yes, it's legal as long as it's all one motion, or part of a single-larger motion. There's a lefty who does this now in the MLB (can't remember his name)
  9. I guess, if you look at it, this is a SCRIMMAGE, so it's a practice game, so ... RELAX, that's what they are there to do, give YOU PRACTICE also. That's probably why you were assigned to do this so you can jump in the water of a very shallow pool (WAY less stress). You'll be fine. Will you mess up, YES, of course, but you will learn, and if you like the overall experience of actually being an umpire, well then ... GOD HELP YOU!
  10. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  11. I typically will listen to something more relaxing ...so, calling it a "jam" wouldn't be correct. It's what works for me, that is, IF I listen to anything at all! Here's an example:
  12. I always try to take a peak at runners touches of 3rd (IF I CAN)
  13. Oddly enough, ... I've been hit twice with thse All-Star retainers, and they came un-done, but were still usable
  14. I think I have a few .... but they are NOT CHEAP!
  15. that always works!!!!!
  16. That's fine, but ........ to an umpire who's never seen the kid? A freshman pissed off he missed a cock-shot? Let it go. Read the room, and just remember it next time he comes up
  17. this is posted in high school, but ....... age group?
  18. Tell your umpire friend to go to a clinic or a camp and learn something. Read the rule-book, ... ANYTHING!! GEEEEZ!! These are the people who give all of us a HORRIBLE name!
  19. Yeah, ... that's spelled out pretty clearly!
  20. Great video Lindsay! Interesting that the award here is now similar (if not exact) to the FED OBS rule .."at least one base"
  21. Great, then it's all what we thought!!! Thanks John!
  22. As discussed, and as asked for in the forum re: Ask The Umpire ... "please let us know what rule set you're referring to" so we can appropriately answer your question. HIGH SCHOOL as been noted above by @Velho
  23. awful ....... those ball bags look like they've been chewed by a dog! And that mask ... can NOT be safe. I think it's silly ...
  24. Ok, great then! I mean, we discussed this at length last year about how the NCAA had the proper verbiage within their rule and that FED needed to do the same. At least there's clarification within the case plays now
