    ISO Mizuno Shovel

All will be a mute issue if BT_Blue doesn't sign up and come. I've heard him want to for YEARS! So I'm just trying to give him a little incentive. I've had multiple people asking for me to sell it to them instead of giving it away.

    Echoing Balk Calls

Echo your partner.... Also, you shouldn't just "kill the play" The balk can be acknowledge and the play continue in many circumstances. As for the confusion part. If we're working together I call thats a balk! and you echo me and now the balk is not full filled then once the play is over/killed then if the coach wants an explanation as soon as his foot hits I'll ask, "bob if you have a question on the balk come to me..." "I have no stop" that is the calling officials responsibility to the crew. If you wanted to go farther you could even say it in the call..... ie. "thats a balk, no stop.... thats a balk". The point I believe the NCAA wanted to get across was that they don't want to see one umpire call a balk and the other 2 are looking around like "really?" but to work as a team and a single unit that trusts one another.

    2016 Camps

The main camps that I know of and that my bosses recommend are as follows. On the west coast Black & Blue Umpire Camps. Midwest is Mid American and east coast is COG. Now there are also several others such as southern/international camps, triple play umpire camps and the mike walsh memorial advanced umpire camp. All of these camps will help you it is just very dependent on where you live the area which you want to move up too. And how you perform. Go and getting seen can help jump start 10 years of evaluations but that goes both ways.

    Mask Porn?

its not a unicorn if you own 3 and got them all for free.... To me its a matter of taste. I got a 90+ rebound in the throat last year in a D1 series and wasn't happy. So I played around with a few variations and landed on this and it for me and my chest protector gives me the most protection which is what matters to me. It doesn't flop around and/or clang since its secured with silicone straps crossed and tightened down. It is an SSK spyder but its not powder coated. Its just been stripped of its covering and given a coke bath to eat away all of the access glue. This helps match the color of the bars. If you don't like it then you don't have to wear it. For me I'm happy and if I'm not I can always go back to my other standard unicorn Nike in the bag!

    2017 Rule Changes/POE's Announced

The other big one for this year is they are effectively eliminating catch and carry in college baseball. This was explained to us and the coaches in a meeting a few weeks ago for d1. This will be interesting for them, much easier for us. 6-4 e "Each runner, other than batter, may without liability to be put out, advance one base when a fielder, after catching a fly ball, steps or falls into any out-of-play area."

    Mound meeting won't break up...

Guys, lets pump the breaks just for a second here. I'm going to assume that you have all done the following assuming its the first trip. Granted time, dusted off the plate, recorded the conference, and taken a second to assess the situation. (is the coach heated with his guys, talking strategy, mad at you/partner/situation etc) OK now you think he is stalling, or anything non aggressive. Ok now you walk to the mound with line up out if you believe he is delaying the game. Walk to the back of the mound and up so your right in the middle of everyone and look the man straight in the eye. Now, assess what is going on again (trust me at this point he knows). Now simply say, " what are we doing (john, dick, harry, etc) are you making a change?" Wait for answer then if not... "ok great we need to get back to work, here we go" If you can't get his attention after that then you can go to the hard ass lines. This is not something that needs to be a soap box that we live or die and need to do paper work on. Just my $0.02

    Umpire Camp/ Clinic Questions

The best camp on the West Coast is Black & Blue Umpire Camps. They have a few camps each year for both the 2 and 3 man systems. If you're looking to get better or to move up that is the place to go. I'd shoot them an email or check out their website. The camps are always in the fall after the season is over but before schedules come out. I hope this helps. www.blackandblueumpirecamps.com

    Gerry Davis Poly-Wool Pants

So I ordered a pair of these to try, A few things of note. Yes they do match the honigs color. They feel quality, and a little lighter material then the honigs. Things they do not have, a double clasp or a travel crease (silicone crease). The base are tapered vs a straight leg with the honigs. they do run small so I wear a 36 in my regular pants, I buy 38 from honigs, I bought 38's from Gerry. They where tighter than my honigs. The thick elastic waist band and single clasp in my humble opinion is a poor design. It seems like a simple fix, put a second clasp for better balance and distribution and allow fabric for the stretch of the flex seam. (much like the UA polys) All in all its a nice starting point. I will be returning them b/c they don't fit me well, for the price I want the double clasp and traveling crease. I hope this helps guys out. You may love it, they may tweak the design, but for now its a no go for me. And I really, really wanted to like these pants.

    Gerry Davis poly wools

The travelers crease is a bead of silicone that is ran down the crease of the pants. This allows the pants to look sharper and keeps a cleaner/harder crease. Without the silicone bead this crease that comes from the factory can eventually fade or become the "double crease" if you or your dry cleaner messes up when pressing/ironing. If you're traveling and your pants are going into your bag rather than a garment bag/hangers in the back of your car its a bigger deal. Honigs pants have this feature. BTW this can be done to any pants by a tailor for about $10-12. But why should I pay for this feature and a double clasp when I can get it in my current pants? I really hope Gerry does some small tweaks to these pants in the next generations of these pants.

  23. @BT_Blue Negative Ghost Rider, when we asked about different locations last weekend. They said that the committee is content with the current rotation. That these three areas have the most competitive flight options. And reaches the majority of their target audience. So like I said it doesn't look good for the NorthWest. I was hoping they would do an SD run at some point but they're liking OC for the time being. Maybe after the last rotation in phoenix in 2018 but I wouldn't hold my breath.
  24. BT it won't be next year, its coming back to Anaheim in 2017. The cycle has been norcal, socal, az and it seems that they are happy with that. Sorry the Portland experiment didin't work out for you boys. As for on the west coast its required for all D1 and only the Pac12 pays for their rooms. Everyone else you're on your own to make it to the clinic. However, its a tax right off.

Facebook discussion: 1 or 2 ball bags

This stems back to aways in MLB baseball. It used to help indicate after the strike if you where a AL vs NL guy. Also it was a indicator that you went to Harry's vs Jimmy's school. You'll see alot of ex-MiLB guys doing it. So now there has become a stigma against guys in higher levels who haven't earned the right to that distinction. Is it a personal preference yes, however understanding at the high levels that this might be seen by others is important. I use two for the simple fact that I can't have any misperception from anyone with it. It makes it easier and doesn't draw undue attention. Whether your tall or short, ex pro/amatuer, in LL or College. 2 ball bags is the conservative route to go.
