  1. Looking at the picture I would recommend replacing the whole chest protector's entire padding. And get the umplife harness. I'm another gear whore and have had numerous harnesses and will vouch that this is the best harness I've ever used. Good luck.
  2. I'm in my 30th year as an umpire and 29th as a college umpire. I still get nerves. I'm not afraid to say it. It happens to all of us.
  3. Hamilton is one heck of an educational musical.
  4. I'm in SoCal and have always given some leeway when it comes to warmups. But that depends on the catcher. If he's taking his sweet ass time getting dressed the pitcher might not get any warmup tosses. If the catcher is hustling then I'll help him out. Helps if somebody is warming up the pitcher as well.
  5. I tried to dye them, but it didn't work. Ray did advise me to spray them with an outdoor sunshield. Using Scotchguard and hoping the desert doesn't tear them up too bad.
  6. Was serious and probably should have explained. But what you are saying is how to do it. Using the cereal box works well. Just the right thickness, yet light. And never had a patch slip using this method. I bought my magnets at Hobby Lobby and they came with a bunch in the package.
  7. I use the cardboard from a cereal box and some magnets.
  8. Live and umpire most of my schedule in the Coachella Valley, desert, and the ball bags do fade. But I almost always have a hot sun shining down on me. Ray can't do anything about that, although he should try harder to block out the sun on days I'm working.
  9. Yes, Exactly like that. Last time it happened it was swollen like that before I even saw another pitch. And it was a spiked pitch. Like how catchers always tell you not to worry because they'll protect you. I let them know it's those guys throwing 57' fastballs that scare the hell out of me. Not so much in college ball as most catchers do everything possible to block that pitch as they know how much it hurts.
  10. And strikes the vein directly over the bone in the top of your forearm. MAN, THAT FU$%^&G HURTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  11. Needs to be 120 seconds between innings.
  12. Never thought about logging in what I eat. But it might cause me to buy a smaller belt.
  13. Good job. I haven't lost that much, just 50 or so, but it's pretty nice being able to purchase and wear athletic cut umpire pants. And have gone from an XL shirt to medium, but should actually be wearing a small on bases. Way easier to run around the field now.
  14. This deal is for real. Mine just arrived and are brand new and fit. Thank you to The Man In Blue.
  15. My Mizuno plate shoes aren't that old, but have had catcher's gashing the hell out of them this season. I got those NB just in case.
  16. The chest protector harness. No longer have to adjust during a game.
