  1. Depends on length of hat brim, doesn't it? A short bill may indeed get some benefit from a sun visor in place as it makes up the difference between mask and hat brim. I don't agree with all these who say it does nothing except look good. As vain as we umpires can be about our appearance, I don't think looks alone has kept them around all these years. Any thing (visor) above your hat is providing additional shade to your head, which results in less heat transfer directly to your hat bill. As a side result, less heat/sun to your hat brim means you may have to squint less due to brightness. In addition, it may help also block some sun (they are 100% UV rated) which may help keep your nose from burning out there doing multiple plates. Does a visor make a huge difference? Probably not, but having had the experience of both wearing - and not wearing - a sun visor with my masks, I can definitely say there is a difference between having one and not having one in place. And now, we can talk about how cool it looks too.
  2. If exposed to the exact same conditions (meaning you always keep the TG on the mask when wearing it), then I believe they should age the same. Same coating, same material, same exposure should equal the same results. The sun exposure is what mostly causes fading to our stuff. We don't throw our stuff on the ground like those crazy catchers do, so our stuff doesn't get scuffed up as easily. And watch out for that freshman catcher (or the new guy the coach is throwing back there to "try" him out) who hasn't learned how to put his mask on the ground away from everyone yet. Instead he instead tosses it like a heat-seeking missile in your direction (Oops, sorry, blue). Those careless catchers cost umpires money... cleat marks on the toe of otherwise perfectly good umpire plate shoes, bad mask discard hits us direct in the face WITH their HSM, getting lazy and wiffing on a ball they should have caught but instead we do it for them with our body, etc. They can be our best friend or our worst enemy. Q. Do you know how to scare an umpire? A. Have the catcher walk out and say "this is my first time catching today, Johnny is ____ (hurt, pitching, DHing, etc)" Some of these first-timers must not have ever watched baseball before. They're not aware of anything about how to catch, receive the ball, etc. They can't even get the CATCH part down right for pity's sake!
  3. If that mask has any age to it... it's grey now. If you want the best match, I'd recommend sending both to him for a new coating. It'll cost more, but what's money to an umpire? We're loaded, right?
  4. Go with the new Wilson Gold with memory foam. A little lower profile versus the original but same great protection and coverage. It even has a flex harness with the stock CP now. Personally, I hated the Cobalt although many liked it. It just never fit my shoulders right. I've tried all and found something to like in most, but I kept going back to my F3 V3 and/or Wilson Gold. They just worked for me.
  5. Take it all for $100 shipped. Trust me, worth much more than that will be included.
  6. Just sold the bag, shins and Adams CP last night (been pending payment). Sorry, my friend.
  7. The V3 is superb. It was my main gamer the last couple of years. I love it's slimming profile under your shirt. The only thing I'll say, and it's not a negative, was that you quasi-feel an impact more in them versus the old Wilson CPs. They don't hurt mind you, but you feel the impact more. It's an odd feeling, but I did not hesitate to wear it in many Varsity and 18U travel-ball games. I never got a mark on me when impacted, no bruising, nothing hurt. In my personal opinion, the CP can be made much more affordable though. Get rid of the Kevlar, it's doing nothing in reality except sounding cool. Kevlar catches a small projectile (bullet) by slowing it down... a baseball is much larger and requires more padding or hard plastic to disperse the force as F3 found out and therefore the need for modifying the V1 and V2. The Kevlar sounds cool, but my honest opinion is it just adds cost to the CP, because I don't think it's doing a thing that regular padding (much cheaper alternative) couldn't do as well. Wear it with pride! it's a great CP!
  8. I think I only have 3 dial indicators left, maybe 2-3 of them. They're the large ones as I have big hands and recently switched from 4 dial to 3 dial as I liked it better and never used the Innings piece anyhow. I can meet in Utica of course. Until recently, I had been living about 10 miles east of Utica in Bladenburg (Knox County). I'll IM you my cell number and we can arrange a meet time and place.
  9. COMBO PRICE: $75 Navy blue shirts, jackets & hats with OHSAA logo: Smitty, two XL jackets (1 LS, 1 SS) Smitty, two XL umpire shirts (1 LS, 1 SS) Smitty, one L umpire shirt (SS) Richardson, four 7 3/8" hats (2 plate, 2 base) can be included if interested, all have some wear, but two are relatively new and I'd wear in playoff games I live in Newark/Heath and work at Easton in Columbus. Prefer to deliver local, but will ship for $15 additional.
  10. I'll try to get better pics, but these pants are in excellent shape. The poly-spandex were bought this past summer and used in maybe 20 games. The poly-wools are two years old and have maybe 75-100 games on them combined (45-50 each). The Honig's I bought used but are still in good shape and look great on the bases, better fit than flex waist. I'd like to get $75 shipped out of them all. IM me for pics if you are interested please and I can text you.
  11. @Thunderheads and sold! Please lock it up Jeff.
  12. Hi. Indicators are spoken for, but any OHSAA items are available. I work at Easton as a rule, but we're WFH until January. Please message me if you want anything. I can do a bundle deal to help someone starting out or who needs it. Thanks.
  13. Stance are yours, but boxes are sold. Please IM me for shipping and payment. Too many responses on here and via IM on FB to keep track and I don't want to miss anyone. Thanks!
