    Some Sort of Record..

And I was 43 4 years ago! Apparently 43 and 4 are the magic numbers.

    HBP Strike 3 again

Yep. I've done it. Coach has come out to argue every time, but (*shrug*) coaches can be wrong.

Balk and Catcher Interference on a Steal of Home

The ball never crossed the plate (because the catcher jumped in front of it). Enforce both the CI and the balk.

Get the shins! I promise you won't regret it. I like the CP, but I know of others that don't. I don't think I've ever found somebody that didn't love the shins, though.

    Potential Bucket Alternative?

But in fairness, it's not like you guys are big gear junkies. You had a show talking about gear. It went something like this: "I use the West Vest gold." "Yeah, me too" "Yeah, me too". I did suggest you get @MadMax on your show to really talk about gear.

    Schutt XV Mad Max

Pics don't show and links don't work. Personally, I've had pretty good luck with imgur.com and Google Photos for posting such things (not just here, but lots of places).

You'll notice I didn't chime in to correct anybody.

And so are most of the people commenting on Twitter.

    Potential Bucket Alternative?

I'd certainly be in for that. And I'd want serious gear junkies (which excludes myself, for the record) to be the ones to use them in live-ball situations.

    Cleaning Smitty Poly Spandex Pants

Most of the time I can just brush the dust off of them. When that doesn't work, machine wash cold.

    HBP Strike 3 again

    I didn't. I said "I bet" - it's a subtle difference.

    Yeah, you can share that.

    HBP Strike 3 again

The best part about this is that this is the one play where the home plate umpire actually has a better view of this than anybody, even the catcher. The ball is coming directly toward him, he can see the path of the ball and whether or not it would have hit the batter without movement. I bet the judgement of the umpire is never overruled on replay all season.

    Unusual FPSR Play

Oddly enough, it's more of a penalty if you enforce it as retired runner interference (2 outs and R1) than as FSPR (2 outs and R2).
  18. NCAA requires tracking by all umpires (which I then think they changed to at least one base umpire, IIRC?). I made an NFHS one because it gives me a place to remember all the pertinent info (inning, outs, count, etc.) which I never noted in my lineup cards, and it really costs me nothing.

    Unusual FPSR Play

8-4-2-g Any runner is out when he intentionally interferes with a throw or a thrown ball; or he hinders a fielder on his initial attempt to field a batted ball. A fielder is not protected, except from intentional contact if he misplays the ball and has to move from his original location; or his being put out is prevented by an illegal act by anyone connected with the team (2-21-1, 3-2-2, 3) or by the batter-runner; for runner returning to base (8-2-6); and for runner being hit by a batted ball (8-4-2k). If, in the judgment of the umpire, a runner including the batter-runner interferes in any way and prevents a double play anywhere, two shall be declared out (the runner who interfered and the other runner involved). If a retired runner interferes, and in the judgment of the umpire, another runner could have been put out, the umpire shall declare that runner out. If the umpire is uncertain who would have been played on, the runner closest to home shall be called out; I see this as nothing to do with FSPR, but simple retired runner interference - no intent required.
  20. This was a good enough idea, I decided to copy it so I could print one off myself. I made two versions - one for NCAA and one for NFHS. I made them available as a PDF here. First page is for NCAA the second page for NFHS. Print on an 8-1/2 x 11 paper, fold the sides in (or cut, if you're so inclined), and then fold horizontally, and it fits nicely in the Ump-Life folder. Flip it over to use to the other side. Is it as nice and professional looking as Ump-Attire's? Nope. Will it do the job for the price of a single print? That's the idea.

Not necessarily. That's what I was saying. In a two-party state, it would not be illegal if there was no reasonable expectation of privacy. Ah, but they would have to pay, too. In fact, they would have to pay *first* (since they would be the ones doing the suing). In the end, the lawyers always win.

Those were private conversations in a private location where there is a reasonable expectation of privacy. (I'm not a lawyer, but I know that's one of the legal tests for whether or not recording is legal.) A baseball field where media could be present, and teams may even record games for hudl or something similar, I would argue, is not. You *might* be able to make that argument for when teams confer, especially if they are holding their gloves in front of their faces.

I can't speak for everywhere, but in my state, they explicitly are. With the permission you give to allow your child to play sports, part of that is that you recognize that this is a public event at which the public may attend, and there may be television, radio, online access, etc., and you can't keep them from using your child's picture, name, etc. (I don't remember the exact verbiage, but it's there). It's a state-wide form that you have to have on file to be eligible to play, both middle school and high school.
