  1. Rules differences from obr

I'll be working some collegiate summer training ball this year and I know there was a thread on here a long while ago about the ncaa rules differences vs. Obr, can someone help me find it or point me to a good reference site. I wont be doing any plates so I don't need all the substitution stuff and I'll have good partners for that. Also any three man mechanic references that you all may know about would be helpful, if like to start learning that as we have next to none here but it's more prevalent back home.
  2. Balls/Strikes: How much do you tolerate

I was working with a second year a few weeks ago, the strike zone chirping from one side started in the first inning. I was U2 so I let it go to see if he would handle it. He didn't. Second inning, it started again. First whine out of the coaches mouth, in my firmest mom of 3 boys voice "Dan, that's enough! We're not discussing balls and strikes today. That's your warning." Coach apologized after the half inning. Several partners have been similar, they ignore too much, too long, so I've stepped in and shut it down hard and fast. That mom voice seems get their attention, they get the point that I'm serious and done with their crap.
  3. Rules differences from obr

Oh, that makes a difference. Thank.
  4. Rules differences from obr

Yeah, not willing to put out the cash for for the book for a few games this year. Maybe next year.
  5. Corrected mound

Leave it until the inning is over. If you allow one team to pitch closer to the plate, you are giving that team an advantage. Our job is to enforce the rules and conditions of the game fairly.
  6. Ump-Cast Podcast

I've listened to a few of these now in between games, very good. I've also suggested them to our rookies.
  7. My turn now?

Prayers and good luck on the move.
  8. Force 3 CP advice

I have the v3, both the vest and the harness aren't worth writing home about. I changed the harness out for the umplife. Now the harness is good and I still hate the vest.
  9. A plea to all umpires (especially my partners)

Stealing that line to use when training rookies.
  10. Sun Delay

Had a game two weeks ago where we delayed a game, only about 15 minutes but a pitch came in and catcher, batter, and myself all bailed on a pitch. Strong glare coming off an office building across the street. Sent from my SM-G920P using Tapatalk
  11. low profile umpire chest protector shirt

I wouldn't pay money for that, buy a pillow instead. I pull the pillow out for all rec under 12 and softball. Wait@madmax the ladies may have some more influence in a few months. We've begun to converge [emoji36] Sent from my SM-G920P using Tapatalk
  12. Jump spin from modified

Is the jump spin pick off move to second a balk in OBR from the modified position? Sent from my SM-G920P using Tapatalk
  13. Jump spin from modified

Yes, it's hybrid. My brain is a bit fried between my heavy game schedule, training new umpires and assigning games. I apologize guys. Sent from my SM-G920P using Tapatalk
  14. Jump spin from modified

Half in stretch half in windup. Sent from my SM-G920P using Tapatalk

  16. Jump spin from modified

Kid in the combo, imo, more stretch than wind-up, right handed pitcher, backspin a pick off to second. Right foot landed half off the back of the plate. Ended up not mattering, all the runners went in with ease, but I've got that gut feeling something wasn't right with the move and I can't get it straight in my head. 17. Jump spin from modified

I didn't think so but I wanted to make sure I wasn't wrong in a no call. Sent from my SM-G920P using Tapatalk

  19. Wendelstedt Advanced Amateur Umpire Course

Have you looked at MidAmump's clinic in Missouri? I believe it's only a long weekend and I've heard nothing but raves about it from umpires who have been there. I believe it's part of the Wendelstedt sphere. I live an hour from there and have yet to make it but it's definitely on my priority list for the next year. Sent from my SM-G920P using Tapatalk
  20. What is the Correct Call

Because it's not a newbie section, it's an ask the umpire section. Plenty of parents, grandparents, and none baseball people in general don't have the slightest clue about baseball. That's OK, I respect they ask rather than assume they know something they don't and yell at some umpire. Sent from my SM-G920P using Tapatalk
  21. The Interference Call

Last year it was the f6/r2 calls, this year seems to be starting out with BI or CI calls, too many inexperienced catchers setting way to far in or batters paying more attention to r2s than freezing or getting out of the way. I sell every call the same no matter what. I don't care if I think a coach will come to me about a call, that's his job and I expect he'll do his job. It's all in how we both represent ourselves during the conversation that counts. Sent from my SM-G920P using Tapatalk
  22. Cooooold Weather

I feel ya, I wore my parka on top of 5 other layers on the bases the other night. Screw looking professional at 37 degrees for 11 year old baseball. Sent from my SM-G920P using Tapatalk
  23. Diamond Masks

I have the ix3, decent mask but the pads are crap. My first concussion was with those pads. Replaced with the team wendy pads but I'm not a fan of them either because of our cold weather. I'd go for the leather pads. Sent from my SM-G920P using Tapatalk
  24. Samurai Gears Website/Mizuno Pro Plate Shoes

Wow, this guy is super responsive! I've been emailing him over some gear and I can say he's been the absolute best about being willing to do extra work to help me find see if gear will work for me before I blow any more cash. I'm glad I took the time to scroll through threads while I'm in town, thanks for posting this. Sent from my SM-G920P using Tapatalk
  25. Umpire tells defense to appeal

We can't tell you what should have been a result of a play we didn't see, however, the proper mechanics on a missed base is no mechanic. Say nothing, do nothing. Start setting up for the next batter, if an appeal arises, then that is the only time to signal/say safe or out. Sent from my SM-G920P using Tapatalk
